Good morning MFP!
I was talking to a friend of mine who is "bout it bout it" when it comes to fitness and weight-loss. He recommended I add Whey Protein to my diet, and he reccomended EAS whey protein.

I didn't have long to talk to him about it (only see him every so often)

what will adding this to my calorie intake do?

How much diod he tell you to add. Protein and milk add up. What you can do is add protein powder to your Oatmeal for breakfast. I see people on youtube suggest it all the time. What is your fitness goal?

i dont use EAS but rather, I use optimum nutrition's whey protein. It is 130 calories per serving and has 24 g of protein with minimal carbs. I just replaced my granola bar (previous post-work out snack) with a shake and it hasn't affected my weight. I have seen more definition in my muscles but I think that is because I'm actually sticking to my strength training plan and isn't completely due to the protein powder. It definitely is yummy and keeps me full for a while plus it tastes great. I'm sure EAS is similar, bodybuilder.com had better reviews for the optimum nutrition so I got that one instead.
  • First, eas is a rip off. The best protein on the market at the best price is Optimum nutrition. You are looking at 120 cals per scoop. At 1 scoop per shake. I do 3 a day.

Whey protein is a "fast acting" protein, meaning it gets broken down and used by the body quickly (compared to other proteins). It's great for immediately after a workout since the protein gets delivered to your muscles quickly and helps them start recovering almost immediately. It will add calories, but they're good for using up your exercise calories.

He said to use 1 scoop a day. he said that it will help repair muscles from working out and help me build lean muscle.

My goal is to lose 100 pounds.

I have EAS whey protein at home. At work I have Pure Protein 100% Natural Whey Protein. I like the Pure Protein because there are fewer ingredients. It has a little more sugar (5:1) and a few more carbs (6:3) but no artificial flavors, sweeteners or colors and the same amount of protein. But EAS might have an all natural version too. I just haven't looked. But they both have 130 calories and 23g of protein

I have mine in a cup of skim milk every morning. It mixes better with a shaker or blender.

I say go with whatever brand you think is best. There are numerous ones.

I take whey as a pre-workout shake... fuel for those muscles. Then post workout I have a protein rich dinner.

You will be shocked how much it helps with weight loss

nah, im not worried about the calories, im typically under calories, so if im adding good protiens, that'd be a good thing.

Im just kinda "sketched out" when it comes to suppliments..

Any whey protein is good, and just to help you out, Walmart has a brand called Fortress or Body fortress, EXACT same ingredients as MET RX, one of the best wheys you can get, I know cuz I spent a sh-t load of money on Met-RX protein, and just for Sh-ts and giggles I happened to look at the Body fortress bottle. The labels were exactly the same...exactly! Same calories too, which will cost you about 100-120 cals per scoop, but the added amino acids and metabolic boost will more than make up for such a small amount of calories. I think it's a great idea to supplement 2 whey two protein shakes a day and if you limit your late nite carbohydrate intake, and do a protein shake before you go to bed, you will boost your natural human growth hormone (excessive carbohydrates inhibits your bodies natural ability to release human growth hormone) and believe me you want that!!!

I'm also on board with ON Gold Standard along with breakfast and do ON Hydro Whey post-workout.

Yes, you have to work them into your daily calories but you want to make sure you're providing your body with enough protein during your weight loss (especially with exercise) that it does not have to break down muscle tissue to get what it needs. There are tons of articles on the interwebs regarding whey protein and why it's a good thing.

The average person might get enough protein in their daily diet but a lot of people trying to lose weight might not. Do some research on how much your body needs and add it to your food diary as something to be tracked.

You might like to look at this Consumer Reports article before making your choice: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/july/food/protein-drinks/whats-in-your-protein-drink/index.htm

EAS has some pretty high levels of arsenic and cadmium compared to many other protein supplements.
