Frozen Chicken=High Sodium

I'm wondering if any of you can reccommend a frozen chicken breast brand that is low sodium?

Goldn Plump All Natural Everyday Easy is like 425 mg of sodium for 4 oz, and so is Tyson. This kinda bothers me, and was wondering if you use other brands that aren't so high?

I like the convenience of the big freezer bags, because then you can just take one out when you just need one.

    Sadly. All the cheap ones I know are high.

    I just by mine when they are on sale. You can separate them into baggies if you like.

    Well if you have a Costco card or know someone who does, they have lean chicken in packages of 6 connected and each one has 2 in it. For the breast I can cut them in half and gives me 4. I keep them in the freezer and just take one out the night before I need them.

    If you don't have any other choices of chicken, you can rinse the chicken well and even thaw it in water then rinse it to get rid of some of the sodium. I'm not sure how much would remain but you should be able to at least rinse off 10% of it, probably a little more though.

    Buy fresh and freeze them yourself.

    Yeah, If I remember correctly, they pump the chicken so it will still be juicy when you thaw it. I found it is cheaper and hopefully healthier to buy chicken in bulk and on sale and freeze them with my foodsaver. Takes some extra work, but I will do 10 or so pounds at a time.

    I buy the frozen Tyson Natural boneless, skinless chicken breasts or breast tenderloins. Each serving has around 180mg of sodium. It's usually only about 50 cents to $1 more than the other brands with lots more sodium.

    Thats what I do. It takes 10 minutes & I separate chicken for a family of 5. chicken legs for them & chicken breast 4 me.
  • that's why i never buy frozen chicken...i buy fresh and freeze them myself. i wrap them in foil and out them in a ziploc bag.

    Hit the butcher shop instead of the grocery store. Or look for organic and free range. The sodium there is much less. Yes, you pay a bit more, but do you really want to be paying less and getting salt?? And the taste is awesome!

    If you have a Trader Joe's - check them out. I haven't tried them yet but the package says 75mg
