When frying, like salmon cakes, fish, chicken, how do you account for your oil intake and how do you know how much oil you are actually consuming. I do not measure the amount of oil I put into the frying pan, I just pour it in and fry my food that way. Am I sabbotoging myself or is there a better way to account for how much oil I am absorbing into my system. I only use olive oil! HELP! HELP! SOS!

I think many people actually measure the olive oil, even if it's only a teaspoon. If some of the oil is left in the pan, this will give you a conservative estimate of the amount used & calories consumed.

you really want to measure out the oil...Olive oil is like 119 calories a tablespoon.

When I'm cooking dinner for the family ....let's say I use 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Then I log .25 tbls of olive oil.

Use a no-stick, don't use olive oil at all (try spray crisco) or buy a sprayer :)

    Yes, log it.

I account for the olive oil I use when sauteeing pasta but when I fry foods, I use what is listed on MFP (or other sites) for the fried version of whatever I'm cooking. There's usually a version listed for most meats that says something like "fried battered/flour" and usually "without/with skin" as well. I go by what I can find, because usually when I do fry (very seldom) I deep fry, and I'm not measuring all that oil!

When I do that though, I usually leave some calories unused for the day to account for any possible underestimations.

    Hope that helps!

Yeah, we do need "healthy" fats for our body to function properly. But we don't need large amounts of them on a daily basis. Everything in moderation.
