I agree!! Mine is public too. Its just food. It helps my friends and others helps me. I was once very shy so I guess I can see why they wouldn't be public. Feel free to check mine out all you want. :)

I had mine private at first because I didn't think it mattered, and I thought I'd be more likely to be honest if I kept it private. But I changed it to public on a whim, and I've discovered that I'm still just as honest, only now I feel a tad more accountable. For some reason, knowing that other people can see it helps me remember what I've put in there more easily than when it was private. It's good. I think if people want to keep it private, that's ok too, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I think we need to think about our motivations and try to use the system in the best way to help us achieve our goals, and sometimes hiding everything from other people isn't the best idea.

Addendum: I just realized mine was set to "friends only"! 'Tis public again. :)
  • I keep mine open because I do know that people judge so it keeps me on track, plus I know that I eat a lot of stuff that some people don't think of, plus I agree, I LOOOOVE when people leave theirs open for the same reason!

Mine is open to all. Some of my thoughts: Some days it helps me to behave and make better food choices knowing that anyone can look at it anytime. Am I tempted to omit things out of embarrassment? In the beginning, yes, the perceived potential embarrassment was enough to occasionally make me leave things out. Not so much anymore. I had a pretty awful weekend emotionally last weekend and my food intake reflected it. I didn't see any point in hiding what I ate so I made myself enter *everything*. It wasn't pretty, but then the world didn't end and nobody laughed at me or ridiculed me either. And now it'll be there to look back on should I choose to. Maybe there are lessons I can learn from it...eventually. Maybe it will be part of a bigger trend or who knows, maybe even trigger a hugely positive swing of some sort. I don't know. Maybe it will serve to show someone else that I'm human and have weaknesses *just*like*everybody*else* and that I don't throw in the towel just because of a bad day or two. Life goes on.

    My two cent's worth.

I keep mine private due to the fact that the plan I do does not count calories and I eat differently than most people here so I don't want the negative comments from people that don't believe the same way I do.

If you want access to my food diary, send me a friend request and you will be added. My diary is open to only those who are added to my friends list.

I had mine set to private for a long time, but somewhere around the 20lbs lost mark, I changed it to public because I thought it might be helpful to someone else, after I had the "hey, what I've been doing is actually successful" realization, and after reading tons of posts from folks who made it seem like you had to be some kind of dietary saint in order to get fit. I wanted to open up my diary, complete with the occasional fast food and brownies and Chinese takeout to the world to give the less-than-saintly (like me) assurance that they could get healthy too.

Of course, then I got lazy and didn't keep filling it out as well as I should have. Trying to be better about that lately though, prompted by incoming bikini season. ;)

I must confess. I leave mine set to "private". While my eating habits have improved greatly I still have a few bad habits that I'm trying to break. I would hate to think someone was going through my diary and going "how could he eat that?". :embarassed:

When I eventually break the bad habits I will probably change it to "public"
