Does anyone have a remedy for nocturnal munchie madness syndrome (also know as late night munchies disease)? My sister says that even when she goes to bed early she awakens in the wee hours of the morning ready to munch on anything that doesn't move. Help!

I also have a MAJOR problem with that too! What i've started doing is eating dinner around 7:30 or so (11 pm bedtime) and before I go to bed I drink a decaffeinated hot tea with a little honey. The sweetness satisfies my craving and the calming tea makes me sleepy so I don't think about food. Also, I heard somewhere that the good fats in dairy (cheese and milk) helps keep you satisfied at night, so I will eat a low fat string cheese or a class of 1% milk before I go to bed. Hope that helps a little! Good luck!

I feel your pain!!! Every night this tiny voice from within my pantry calls me.... I finally decided the best way for me to handle it is to just save calories and plan my snack for the evening. I still go over sometimes but I'm trying to keep myself accountable. I did read on a prior post an idea that I thought was good... to find some other evening habit to distract you like crochet, reading, paint your nails, whatever you like to do to keep your mind off of food. Good luck! You're not alone :)

I try to save enough calories to have a bowl of Fiber One. Usually two servings of cereal with 1 cup of skim. (and splenda too). The fiber (28 grams) should bulk up in your belly and hopefully keep you full.

I'm right there with you. I drink a lot of water to help with cravings but I do cave and snack. If I cave it is for something sweet so I eat a fat free chocolate pudding pack with some peanut butter mixed in. It has some protein and lots of sugar to smother my sweet tooth. Besides that, I would also recommend that you find something to do with your hands to keep your hands and mind out of the kitchen.
  • I am right there with you and your sis. Right now as I type a loaf of bread is trying to seduce me.

  • Hi everybody. I'm the BigSis with the munchie problem. Ok, let me see if I've got this right: Late dinner (I'm already doing that) -check! , cheesestick or milk (gonna start doing that) - check! and even more water (let's hope I don't wet the bed) - check! I'll try these first and let you know how it works out for me. Thanks, and keep those ideas coming in!
