Stupid Scales!!

I took a sneaky pre-weigh in weigh yesterday am and was pleased that I'd lost a pound - down to 162lb
But - the battery in the scale was about flat (needed some persuading to turn on) so for my proper weigh in this morning I put new batteries in. 169lb This is heavier than whne I started (according to these scales)
I could check my weight on the Wii - but my TV has decided it wants to be a radio - no picture!!
I have obviously not put on 5lb in one day but what do I do? Go with the new readings? Take 5lb off every reading? Buy a new TV & use the Wii (presuming of course that gives a 'better' weight:laugh: )
I've lost over an inch from my waist and over an inch from my hips so I should be happy, but I'm feeling a bit demoralised - seems I was even heavier than I thought and my goal is even further away than when I started

Sorry to say this, but if the batteries have been low then they probably weighed you lighter when you did your first weigh in too. Now you have new batteries it has boosted. (this has happened to me before).
You have more than likely lost but the scales are weighing 'right' now if that makes sense.
Keep at it and weigh again next week
Good luck x0 -
I fear this same thing will happen to me...my scale has been asking for new batteries for a while and tonight it finally went out on me =/
I think sometimes it is possible to have quite a bit of weight difference, although five pounds does seem like a lot! I know for me, weighing myself at night vs. the morning will be two different weights. If your tape measure, is telling you you've lost inches...then I would be proud of that! Great job Even if you haven't lost weight, that's a good indication that you're toning...right? (I'm no professional...)
P.S. New TV is definitely the best option in this situation =P0 -
Aww that's so disheartening!
Look in the mirror, check the fit of your clothes - that'll let you see that you've lost weight regardless of what your stupid scales say! As for using the wii - that's what I was using but the balance board doesn't show a weight loss unless you loose a whole lb so that can also be disheartening. I'd been using my balance board but have now decided to check my weight on both wii and scales. This morning my scales are weighing almost 1lb more but they give me increments of 1/4lbs so I can see even a small loss.
Keep up the good work and don't be discouraged

I gave up with my scale. My cats like to sit on it, press all of the buttons, and generally just mess with the functions. I have weighed myself on this scale religiously since the middle of last year. I was stoked when I finally saw that the scale had moved, but now I am beginning to wonder. I'm going to re-evaluate my scale this weekend, but if it's off (from what I want it to say), no big thing. It's more about how the clothes fit!!!0

Thanks all - I know I've lost weight - those inches gone, I can see it in my face and my clothes are looser. More importantly, I feel better - more stamina, more energy, sleeping better.
I think I'll skip my weigh in this week, take a deep breath, go to my Zumba class and put the new, accurate weight in next week when hopefully it'll be 12 stone (168lb)
I think the big thing is, being British I count in stones and pounds, and I was hoping to hit 11 and a half stone (161lb) which is big psychologically. I was all psyched up and so was a bit deflated.
Oh well, off to Zumba class in a few minutes - that should cheer me up. Hopefully my Partner will have put the old CRT TV up by the time I get back so i can hit the Wii Fit for some Yoga to chill me out!!0 -
I have 3 scales now. The first was a regular old fashioned one, but my cat kept sleeping on it. My niece kept putting it on it's side, and I got different readings everytime I stepped on it.
Ok, so then I bought a fancy digital one and it seemed to work fine, but my weight kept going up and down so I changed the battery in it. My weight was even more than before.
I went to my dr's office and weighed in and their scale showed me 5 pounds lighter, so I immediately went home and weighed in on my digital, and it was 5 pounds heavier, so I always took 5 pounds off UNTIL it started acting goofy on me.
Ok, I just bought a $10 scale about a week ago and the numbers are so small (why did I buy such a thing?), that I need to get my reading glasses to see my weight which seems to be right. SHEEZ~ this is frustrating!
Hang in there and if you can go to a dr's office or your local store has a scale next to the blood pressure machine (alot of Walgreens now have scales which get calibrated often), then try that.
In all actuality - your losing inches says more than a scale ever can, so go more by the inches lost than your weight.
Remember too, that if you're working out - you will gain muscle and that weighs more than fat, so a scale isn't always the best answer (for me or for anyone).
WTG!!! Keep up the good work0 -
Using 'professional' scales is a good idea, thanks.
Taking the son swimming in a while, I'm pretty sure there is a scale at the baths - I'll weigh myself there. If not, there is one in the multi-story car park in the town centre - I can weigh myself when I go buy a new TV!! Every cloud has a silver lining
(Yes, I am on an endorphine rush after Zumba )0
