sweet potato/yams tip

i wanted to make stew this week, but my pantry was bare. i didn't have ANY potatoes (how can that be!), any canned potatoes, or even any sweet potatoes. you can't have stew without some starchy yumminess, so i hunted the shelves and found a can of yams that i didn't use at thanksgiving. i decided 'what the heck?' and opened it. i drained all the sweet syrup and then rinsed it well in a colander, quartered it and threw it in the stew pot. it was delicious! so if a recipe calls for potatoes and you are out, try sweet potatoes in it's place. :)

I use turnips, too, for stews or potroasts in place or addition to the potatoes.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sweet potatoes have a lot of good things in them, so why not use em? There's a thai place near me that uses them instead of white potatoes in their curries.
