I'm trying to do the 5-6 meals a day and eat about every 3 hours, before this I was a heavy eater. I have been working my butt off lost 21 lbs. so far. Though after I eat a small portion it stills feels like I'm hungry. Is my stomach in starvation mode untill it gets small enough to handle my food intake? But I'm still losing the weight so I guess that's good in itself. Tell me what you think.

How long have you been doing the 5-6 meals? I was super hungry for about a week and half before I got use to the smaller portions. I was a heavy eater too.
  • try having a massive glass of water before each meal , and making concious effort to eat slowly .. ( yr body takes a while to realised u have refueled . so if u eat to quickly , yr brain doesnt register it until a while after .. good luck )

It takes some time for the brain to realize that the stomach had food, i read something like 20min, Im not sure about the exact number now. Thats why we eat more than we should - the brain just doesnt get it in time!

Congrats on the 21 lbs loss!. IF you are eating close to your allotted calories its doubtful you are in starvation mode. I notice a huge difference in 'what' I eat. Are you getting enough protein? Usually adding in some protein with each meal or as a snack really helps that for me. You might want to experiment a little with that. Also are you drinking water. Although there is controversy over the 8 glasses of water a day theory, I do find that it really helps fill me up so if tricking my body into feeling less full is what it takes, then I'll drink more. I"ve also found that when I stall or get on a plateau quite often I find I've stopped the water intake. So...drink up if you aren't already doing so! Best of luck to you....

Yea I think its about 15/20 mins, also you will find your metabolism will start to speed up, as I have noticed. I am doing more of less the same, I find some foods with complex carbs in tend to keep me full for longer, like cottage cheese, pitta breads, pasta, oats and brown rice.

It is a big learning curve and I think its about finding something that works for you, but by the sounds of it you are doing great!

    Keep it up.

    Ben.

Thanks for all the comments. I do drink plenty of water in the day I think, maybe I just need more. I have cut out all of sugery drinks. The most I drink now is some 1% milk and plenty of water and trying to eat a whole lot healthier. I do feel the same way with brain reacting slower to the stomach it takes about 15 -20 min to register. I think my body just has to adjust.
