from all the posts you will read on this site, the Polar HRM's seem to be the winner! don't go cheap, these are truly one of those products that you get what you pay for.
I have the Polar F4. quite a bit of MFP members have the F6 and a few have the F11. I get what I need from the F4 with the chest strap (a must IMHO). I get a read out of my exercise elapsed time and total calorie count. It also give me a cumalative count (like if I want to see what I burned in a week). It also tells me at what percentage THR I am at continuously and then at the end it tells me how long I stayed within my THR. The chest strap is very comfortable and nobody can even tell I am wearing it. another huge plus is that it synchs with the machines at the gym, so I can watch my THR on the screen and don't have to look at my watch.
Hope this helps!0 -

I have the same one as PM and I totally agree with her. I use mine with a treadmill at home, so I don't see the readout on screen, but the watch readout is fine for me. GL!:flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks, that is what I needed to know. I bike alot and would like to keep up with my heart rate while doing so.0

I use the HighGear Duo--cost $40 from amazon.com and does everything I need it too.
At some point, I want to get one that does cadences for bike riding though. Or a bike computer for that anyway0 -
I have a polar f11 and I use it daily. I love it because it can actually make a plan, guides you during exercise, etc. I'd think it really comes down to features you want/don't want. I'm a geek, I like numbers and high tech toys. The F11 syncs up with a PC and keeps a profile for me on the polar training website.
The ones at walmart are cheaper, but if you're just looking to see what your heart rate is they'll be fine. You do get what you pay for, but if you don't require much, you can get away with spending relatively little.0
