Hi everyone,
I've been on and off MFP for about a year now, but this is my first day posting to the forums. I've thought about doing this (posting) for a long time, but I kept talking myself out of it. I go back and forth about wanting to keep everything private and doing this on my own, then I read posts by other people and think I could really use the support and encouragement.
I've always been overweight, but I gained about 80 pounds after my mom died seven years ago and I havent been able to lose it since. With the weight gain came a number of health issues (PCOS, hormone imbalance, hypothyroidism), which has only made the weight issue worse. I'm sick because I'm fat, and I'm fat because I'm sick.
I finally commited to join a weight-management program through my health insurance and local gym, and I'm taking medicine for the thyroid and PCOS issues, which is supposed to help. So I have started. I keep telling myself that this is not a diet, this is a lifestyle change.
I get discouraged very easily and it's hard when progess isn't apparent as quickly as I want it to be. Just got to keep working.
Wow, I've rambled on long enough! I wish the best to everyone and their journeys!

Congratulations on making your decision! You're right, it is a lifestyle and it doesn't happen quickly.
It is SUPER frustrating when things take longer that it feels like they should, but remember that weight that comes off quickly tends to go right back on. Just be patient, and feel free to turn to these boards for support. We're all in the same boat. Feel free to friend me if you want! : )0 -
