What time of day do you want your ideal weight to be?

I have been thinking my weight goal through and I came to the realization that I weigh myself in the morning before breakfast but just after I go through the morning routine, when I am my lightest. So I weighed myself this morning and then got dressed. Put on a pair of jeans that had been a little snug but were now fitting comfortably and went about my day. Mid-day I realized they were not as comfortable as they were when I put them on...Then the thought occured to me, that I really want my goal weight to be when I am at my heaviest point in the day! I think I will need to add another 5 pounds or so to my weightloss goal to achieve that number or try and find a scale right after lunch!

Am I the only one out here who has had this somewhat disheartening thought?

  • Not at all! I don't think of it as disheartening though. It's just part of my goal. I want my goal weight to be that number I see on the scale when I hop on at ANY time of day! Not in the morning when it's always going to be smaller!

I am with you on this. I put on a nice pair of form fitting pants today, which use to be tight. They were nice and lose this morning, but as the day went by, I found they got a little tighter. I think it is that our body fills up with gas and fluid, and we bloat from that and fluid intake. Let me know if you come up with the same conclusion.
  • Thats a good point, that I have never thought about. Right now I weigh in first thing in the morning when I am at my lightest, because I have so much weight to lose I want the lowest number posible. I might approach it differently when I am a lot lighter. LOL!!

Well I think that you are missing a key issue. In the afternoon you weigh more because you are full of food and water that you have been consuming thru the day.

But you all by yourself weigh what you weigh in the morning right after your morning routine. Does that make sense?

So the questions is do you want your goal to be; what you weigh, plus a days worth of food? Or do you want your goal to be what you weight?

    I picked what I weigh.

I hope this makes sense. And good luck on your journey.

I agree. Even a glass of water makes my pants fit tighter, which sucks, cause I wake up all happy that I'm feeling thinner than before (granted, 6lbs isn't a lot of weight, but I've noticed at least a difference, which makes me happy). By the end of the day I've had 20 glasses of water and feel heavier than ever! I try to hope that eventually this will even out/get better/whatever. I know I'm not going to be my goal weight at the end of the day (that's massively unrealistic, seeing as I've set my goal as thin as I've been since high school) but it would be nice...
  • I have had that problem every time I lose weight and because I like seeing the numbers go down I weighed in the morning but when I would go to doc visits I was always heavier. This time I do two weigh ins, one in the morning after the routine and the second just before bed. I find that it seems slower to lose this weigh but I really think it is a more honest assessment. This way I can see how much I am at my lightest and how much I gain with the water and gasses. Honestly though I have learned there is a bigger difference (morn to night) when I eat greasy, fatty food than when I stay on a healthier whole food plan. Don't get me wrong, I am a dining out mama with a busy schedule. I just found that my motivation is in seeing how close I can get the weighins to be equal and closer to my goal weight because I want the doc to see the scale down so he can celebrate with me.

Well said, Paige1108! I was going to say almost the same thing, when you weigh yourself during the day, you're just weighing your food. after you're body has converted it to energy/fat, and eliminated waste, that's all you. I weigh myself in the morning, before I eat/get dressed and after bathroom routine. (TMI Sorry :embarassed: )

I'm also nosy and sometimes if i'm not busy, i weigh myself during the day and find I go up whole pounds! anywhere from 2-5lbs. but in the morning, i'm back to previous day's weight / down a pound or two. depending on how many times i cheated that week. :embarassed:
