Stuck again

I am feeling a bit discouraged today, having weight in for the past two days at the same amount (I weigh every day). Now normally this would get me motivated, but every time I try to loose weight I get stuck at this same number for a few weeks (265lbs) and nothing changes.

Any tips to get past this number? I've been doing a lot of shoveling snow outside, like an hour or so a day, trying to tell myself it's probably muscle but I just can't get past this hump.

Try weighing in only once a week. When you're weighing every day, that's so much pressure to see movement! It's only been two days, you know? Be patient with yourself. :) And take your measurements in addition to your weight -- a lot of times we'll slim down, but the scale isn't moving.

    Are you eating enough calories?

It's easy to get discouraged when you watch the scale everyday and it doesn't budge. It is recommended that you only weigh yourself once a week (yes, it's hard to do). I would also really try to do some more exercise besides shoveling snow. Try walking for 20-30 minutes a day. Good luck and don't give up!
  • I feel the same way! I have been stuck at this one weight for 2 months! I found out my body was in starvation mode. I started this site last week and lost 1lb.. I get so down on myself seeing how some lose 4lbs or more, but we have to keep our heads up. Your body is different than everyone else's. You might be adjusting to your calories or your new excercise routine. Give it time. Your scale will move!

Weigh yourself less often. Add more exercise and look at your food/water intake. You might need to increase your water.
Did I mention weigh yourself less often? Once per week is best...at the same time of day (early morning).

    You're not stuck! Stay encouraged.:flowerforyou:

You're right, it probably is muscle since shoveling makes mucles that I didn't even know i had hurt, however when I start feeling discouraged with the same number or it goes up even a little, I make a deal with myself to not get on the scale for another 48 hours and I do something fun for my workouts, not involving any strength training. I started taking my daugher roller skating and ice skating and I'm having fun and burning a ton of calories, or i'll do some kind of dancing. Do what you can to make it fun and ignore the numbers. Progress comes in many forms! good luck

It has only been 2 days. When it has been 3 weeks or more it is a stall. Hang in there and be patient. If this is bothering you that much you may want to switch to weekly weigh ins because weighing daily your weight will definitely go up and down and if you have eaten right the scale will trend down over time.

I recommend looking at your water and sodium and adding cardio exercise to your routine. An obsession with the scales ups and downs are not good for you. It will get you discouraged and you will quit all together. I am a fan of wieghing daily too and sometimes I weigh daily and sometimes I don't. but when I do I do not obsess over its ups and downs and same weights either. Like now I am back to weighing daily because I have a goal in mind for February 1st. It may take 4 or 5 days for me to see a lose and maybe not but either way if I know I ate right I move forward with a positive attitude.

Positive, Persevere and Patience! You can do it!

BTW - 2 days of shoveling snow has not built enough muscle weight to be reflected on the scale either way.

That is a true stall! Congrats on joining MFP and welcome!
  • I have been doing p90x for two weeks and have been eating between 800-1000 calories a day. I am working out the best of my ability which has already increased strength and repetition with each day, but I have not lost 1 lb. Not 1! I get on the scale every day and it is the same. I have a friend that says I am not eating enough, but it is tough because I actually feel like I am eating better than I ever have...every 3-3.5 hours I eat something even though it is a mealbar or a light snack, but at least it is healthy. They say, burn more than you take in and I am doing that, but nothing....not even 1 lb in 2 weeks of exercising every day. I am going to stick with it because I am determined, but it is hard to take when my husband lost 12 lbs in the same two weeks. Any words of motivational wisdom for me?

I agree with everyone. Weigh-in once a week right after you wake up. That's what I do. Muscle weighs more than fat and drink TONS of water! Stay positive and the scale will move. :o)

Sounds to me like yo'ure not eating nearly enough calories. You need to NET at least 1200 a day -- you're not taking in that much to begin with, and then you're burning off a bunch exercising. Try to get more calories and see if that helps.

Thanks for this post and HANG IN THERE!! I, too, was feeling the same way this weekend. I have noticed a small change in the way my clothes fit in the hip area. BUT, the scale won't move!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been this way for 2 weeks and Ive been actually running regularly. I know that I haven't been doing as well with my water intake. But, I've been so busy at work that I dont have the luxury of running to the toilet every 30 minutes.

I think what everyone wrote here is encouraging and I'm going to stick it out and keep trying. I'm determined to make that scale move before Feb. 1st!!

We can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets regroup and gear up for an amazing week this week!!!!
