It Matters?!?!

So, after seeing that many people go over their sugar amount but never exceed their calories, I'm now wondering if the rest of it doesn't matter. For example, If your limit is 1700 calories and 20g of sugar, and you eat 1500 cals and 50g of sugar, will you still lose weight?! SO confused... haha :)

Also, how many of you guys do this and still lose weight?

  • I'm often over on my sugar, especially if I'd had a lot of fruit, but that's normally ok as it's natural sugar (MFP doesn't know the difference). It's always best to keep ADDED sugars to a minimum. As far as your calorie amount, stick to what MFP tells you as that is specific for YOU. No one here can advise you on how many calories you should be consuming to lose weight - if you've entered your details into MFP correctly, all you need to do is follow the limit it sets you for a while and see how you go. If you're not losing after a few weeks, you might have to tweak things here or there until you find what works for you.

But to answer your question, I'm often over on my sugar due to natural sugars (not added) and I've still lost weight.

I usually go over on sugar. Fruits and stuff like that are going to put you over right off the bat! I watch sodium closer because thats more often in processed foods. Dont get me wrong I try to keep everything within reason... but sodium is the big number i watch along with calories when Im buying food.
  • I would say that you will still lose. However, if much of our daily intake is in the form of simple sugars, your going to have other deficiencies and that could result in other health problems.

Same here... I mainly focus on Calories, Sodium and Protein (I aim for 125g of Protein/day which is over what MFP suggests).
