Im trying to find all kinds of healthy foods in the grocery store today to cook with and everything I pick up my husband gives me that look of disgust.i dont know how I'm gonna cook healthy meals when he won't eat any dairy products except cheese and milk and the only vegetables he'll eat is cucumbers and sometimes tomatoes and carrots.he is trying to be supportive but hes just not willing to try new foods or give up his bad ones.

Is hubby around when you're preparing the food? Is he there all the time you're shopping?
I've introduced "new" things by having them as ingredients that were hidden by being diced in your favourite blender / processor it was the only way to get spinach started, they never knew it was there, must have thought it was parsley or savory when they could see the pieces....
I've also "fooled" the house into drinking heavier or lighter milk fat than they thought by ensuring I was the one to buy the milk when needed. Put the 1% milk into the whole milk container and they never noticed a difference. Put the whole milk into the 1% and again they didn't notice the difference, just the label.
the new "smart" kraft dinner with vegetable wheat, the kids see the commercials but if I make KD and they see a box of "regular" kd on the counter they don't know the difference when it's on their plate.
Most of the "Disgust" looks are because it's new. Many of us are not adventurous when it comes to foods, like look at your last half dozen times out at the restaraunt... what'd you get... chances are the same thing most of the visits, I know mine were all breakfast items, seems to be the meal I go out for when I do go out.0 -
I know this is radical - but I would just stop cooking or buying food for him. He can do his own if he doesn't like yours. Now if he is lazier than picky- he will soon adjust.
I 'll eat anything as long as I don't have to cook it!

That was my first thought too. My husband will eat anything I cook but when he goes shopping, he buys all sorts of food I don't want in the house. But when I'm cooking, he is not around. It's like with kids, don't tell him what's in it until he is finished and likes it. And do shopping on your own.0 -
Yeah, I had this issue as well!!
I just slowly introduced things - he hated mushrooms, tomatoess and shuddered at the idea of eating anything with squash in!! Trying to get him to eat fish was a nightmare and don't get me started on beans/pulses!
Now, however, he'll have mushrooms in chilis, bolognaise and casseroles, he requests my butternut squash soup almost weekly, he's tried different types of fish AND the other day he even ate my five bean chili without complaint
I think if you bring things in slowly and like others have said, hide things in food then you might have a bit of success...If it's any consolation it's taken me nearly 10 years to get this far :laugh:0 -
My husband also used to be like this. However, he'd rather eat what I make than cook himself. If he doesn't like what I make then tough *kitten*. He can make something himself or go hungry.
I've lost my weight over a period of 3 years and in that time, he has lost loads of weight - and without even trying! Just because I have changed what I buy and what I cook.0 -
I have a picky eater husband as well. Growing up his parents rarely cooked it was always restaurants every day!! No wonder he never learned to cook and has no desire to as well.
My husbadn only ate peas, corn , potatos, cucumbers, raw carrots. Over this last year that I have been eating healthier he has started eating romaine salads with peppers, carrots and cucumbers (I add mushroms and tomatos seperate to mine since he won't touch them still), spaghetti squash with meat sauce--he eats more of the sauce than the squash but still gets some in him. The only way I got him to eat zuchhini is in zuchinni bread (not the healthiest but the quickest way to use up my surplus from the garden). Tomatos he only eats in sauce or salsa. He does like cauliflower -roasted only and celery.
I have yet to get him to eat others--brocolli only in stir fry where he can drown it and other veggies in sauce. Otherwise he eats around it till he gets frustrated and then complains that it would be better without that icky ingrediant. I have finally put my foot down and tell him if he doesn't like it he can cook his own dinner (which will never happen unless eggs and ramen noodles count!). Sometimes to make it easier I make my veggies seperate and add it to my meal, but I know thats not possible all the time--tough he has to deal with it!!
Maybe try preparing the foods in different ways to see if he likes them -texture and flavor play a huge role in wether they like the food or not. Good Luck!0 -
The easy thing to do would be to just make dinners like you used to but only take half a portion for yourself, then make yourself an additional side of vegetables (something easy like frozen string beans).0
