This site is not only good for weight loss, but for sodium intake as well. I have high blood pressure, and have learned from using this site to swap foods or eliminate them to lower sodium. You'd be surprised how much sodium is in certain foods.

I completely agree with you - the food logs (as long as you look at various entries) have pretty accurate sodium counts.

But be careful! You can't change the "recommended sodium" on here - and according to other sites I've looked at/followed - it should be 1500mg or LESS (whereas here it says I can take up to 2500).

the connection between sodium intake and blood pressure is questionable at best. some more recent studies have shown that reducing your sodium intake can actually increase your blood pressure. the biggest difference one can make is cook as much as possible from raw ingredients and switch to an unrefined salt. of course I still haven't found a way to add salt to my recipes on this site.

You can change your sodium. I did, and I had set mine to 1,000 mg/day. You go into GOALS, then CHANGE GOALS, then CUSTOM, and you make your change.

To keep sodium low, I bake/cook a lot of my foods. Avoid regular grain products, such as cereal and bread unless you are chosing their low-sodium options. My entire breakfast is usually the same amount of sodium as 1 slice of regular bread.

I'm just starting to worry about sodium as my weight is fluctuating so much and I'm looking for a cause. I don't eat a lot of processed foods and notice how bad they are when I do. However, I've never entered salt as part of a recipe... how foolish! I'll be watching that now.

Soysos, I just tried adding salt (a brand we have in the UK called Maldon sea salt) and entered it fine.
