Im new here to MFP and just started the Couch to 5K program- Im on week 3. Is anyone interested in starting a group of new runners with me? I need motivation and accountability? Im not so worried about weight loss as getting fit is really my goal and I feel they go hand in hand. With one will come the other- right? I say that and with every week I dont get "biggest loser" type weight loss I lose motivation. I keep telling myself it is a marathon and not a sprint. Sooooo thats where I am. I really need you! Do you want to start a runners group with me??

Hey! We have a group that you might like...

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/157757-new-couch-to-5k-c25k-thread-anyone-out-there-in-week-1

We're all at different points in the C25K process, but most of us are in the first half. These guys are a really supportive and encouraging group of people.

Welcome to MFP by the way!

I have thought about starting C25K but my doctor has advised me NOT to run. I have arthritis. I do love the elliptical. Do you think I could get similar results on the elliptical? Confession....I have NOT been exercising AT ALL. This might light a fire under my butt. Sorry if I'm rambling. :)

You could do C25K on the eliptical. Just do the "walking" portions at a slower pace and the "running" portions at a faster pace. :)

Did your doctor tell you it'd be OK to walk? I would have suggested walking during the walking portions and speed-walking during the running portions but that might not be advisable either. When I listen to the ipod app I have for the C25K program on the stereo, my husband likes to try to follow along when he's on the elliptical. He goes regular pace during the walking and pushes the pace faster during the run portions. Any sort of interval training will probably be successful. Give it a try. Maybe check with your doctor to see if it's ok. Just listen to your body and don't hurt yourself!

I started running/walking for excersize Nov 2010.. it's taken me almost three months to get to where i am. yesterday i ran 2.5 miles at 5.2 mph. My goal is to be able to run a 5k in April... I'll be your motivational buddy, if you want....
  • This is great! I'd love to have some support. I actually started my running program this morning. I conquered a lifelong fear of running on a treadmill. I was so afraid that I would fall or embarass myself but I finally did it, only to fall in the shower when I got home haha. I have to laugh at the irony that I was so afraid of falling off of a treadmill yet I fell in the shower. The program I started is a little different from the C25K program, but has the same premise. The 5K I am training for is in mid-April. My goal is to finish it - I'm not training for speed just yet. I need some motivational support, so please add me as a friend!
