I cannot figure this out........I might be over thinking it.

I am making Steel Cut Oats.......so.........

If 1 cup of dry oats makes 21/2 cups Cooked oats. How much is 1 cup of cooked oats converted to dry?

I always make one cup because my husband eats the rest. Help!!!

    I meant .08 I think--less than 1/2 a cup at least.

Oh heck, not sure now--I agree with Jimmy Buffett--MATH SUCKS!

.5 cup would make 1.25 cups.....so you could go with just a little less than a half cup dry.

it would bejust under 1/2 c. dry oats
    because:

1.25 cooked oats would require 1/2 c. dry oats
so for just 1 c. cooked oats it would be just under the 1/2 mark

Nope, you're right. 1 cup dry to 2.5 of cooked = 250% increase.

1 cup devided by 2.5 = .4 cups dry to make a single cup.

    Hi there!

I am guessing you are trying to figure out your nutrition information?

The easiest way to think about it is...

You eat 40% and your husband eats 60% of the yield.

So, if the nutrition information is stated in terms of 1 dry cup just multiply everything by 0.4 to get your nutrition information.

    Hope this helps

Like I said, I second Buffett--MATH SUCKS! Why I love MFP--it does it for you!

"If necessity is the mother of invention
Then I'd like to kill the guy who invented this
The numbers come together in some kind of 3rd dimension
    A regular algebraic bliss.
    Let's start with something simple
Like one and one ain't three
And two plus two will never get you five
    There's fractions in my subtraction
    And X don't equal Y
But my homework is bound to multiply

    Math sucks (math sucks)
    Math sucks (math sucks)
I'd like to burn this textbook, I hate this stuff so much!
    Math sucks (math sucks)
    Math sucks (math sucks)
Sometimes I think that I don't know that much--But math sucks"!
