Ever notice the variation in nutritional information in MFP database. Anyone else find it frustrating that sometimes it's hard to find the correct information for food.

Just throwing it out there.

  • Yeah. I usually use "best guess"; it may not be perfect, but it gives me a real good idea.

I sometimes check raw ingredients against the nutrients listed in this website http://nutritiondata.self.com/
For things I cannot check I look at several MFP entries and try to guess on the one that seems more appropriate.

Unless it's a food I've entered or am familiar enough with to know what the counts should look like, I try to use the counts on the MFP database rather than those entered by individuals. I also go to www.calorieking.com to double check things sometimes as well as the nutrition data site that someone else posted.

Keep in mind that MFP is world wide. The info in the database is being entered by people all over the world. Each country has differences in what info is on the labels, measurments used, and additives allowed in the production of the item. Then you have the differences in the label from when the manufacturer changes something in the recipe, serving size, or container size. All of the entries could be valid, just not for you in particular. If you don't find one that you are comfortable with you can always enter it yourself.
