When I started a few weeks ago, 45 minutes on the elliptical earned me 829 calories. Because of the weight I've lost, I only earn 795 now. I know it's not a huge difference, or a big deal, but when i saw that 829, I thought, "wow - I'm huge. I'm so fat that 45 minutes of elliptical earns me over 800 calories? That's almost half of my daily allotment."

It's actually kind of nice to earn less than 800. :)

Wow. I only end up with about 500 or so for 45 minutes. Maybe I need to put on some weight so I can burn more calories. Errr...wait a minute....

    :)

    Nice work, man!

Congrats! What a great way to look at it!
  • I personally think the eliptical is way off on the amount of calories you burn.

For example, I wear a heart rate monitor and work out alternate days on treadmill/elliptical for the same amount of time.
The treadmill will say I've burned 500 calories in about 50 minutes or so. The elliptical will say about 800. I always check my heart rate and keep consistant on each overall and there is no way I'm burning 300 more on the elliptical........

I go by the treadmill as it seems to correlate with info on internet sites about how many calories you are burning. I generally find I burn about 100 cal in 8-10 minutes on either machine, depending on how intense I am that day.

However, that being said, if you are going like 90 at the highest intensity, you might be doing 800 in 45 minutes.....that's one intense workout though and good on you if you are!
