Detox diets are becoming very popular and the idea of losing bunches of weight while detoxing your body may sound great. These diets claim that they rid your body from harmful toxins, lose a good amount of weight, and improve an individuals overall health. However there are many criticisms of these diets as well as supporting points that you may want to consider before deciding whether a detox diet is the right diet for you.
What Is a Detox Diet?
There is a wide variance of Detox diets, however they are all comprised on the element of ridding the body from toxins by consuming a diet of raw vegetables, fruit, water, and lemon juice with the avoidance of foods and substances such as caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, meat, and in some cases no food at all which is considered a fasting detox. These diets range in time frame from a single day to up to 40 days.
People report after detoxing for a week on these diets: increased energy, less bloating, clearer skin, and 3-15lb weight losses. However, in some cases withdrawals from nicotine, alcohol, food, and caffeine can result in headaches and irritability.
Does The Diet Plan Work?
Although these types of detox diets improve the way you feel, the principles for this drastic of a diet are lacking. There is menial evidence that there is any real positives gained from implementing them. However it is a genuine fact that all food is not consisted of pure nutrients. The typical diet contains and includes toxic substances such as alcohol, but then again, the human body is already equipped to handle these types of toxins.
The main falsehood of detox diets, however, is that vegetables and fruits have a decreased amount of toxins while fish and meat lead to the accumulation of harmful substances in the body. In fact, the opposite is often true; vegetables such as cabbage and onions are high in naturally occurring toxins, while meat and fish often have low levels. The greatest irony is that the liver, the body’s detoxification organ, can most effectively breakdown and eliminate toxins on a high-protein diet such as one rich in meat and fish.
Of course, fruit and vegetables are very important components of a healthy diet, but the idea that you should exist solely on such foods for days on end isn’t consistent with the principle of a healthy balanced diet. Your daily diet should contain at least five portions of fruit and vegetables as well as lean meat, carbohydrates, and dairy products.
Eating a healthy diet on a daily basis will help the body function properly and it shouldn’t be necessary to pursue a detoxification regimen. However, if you do find the urge to detox, use it as an excuse to kick-start a new healthy eating regime.

Has anyone ever tried the detox pills?0

well i haven't try detox but i do it naturally, i just eat fruits & veggies... foods that cleanse out the toxin0

Actually detoxing is important due to the chemicals (aka pesticides and herbicides) found on our fruits and vegetables, non-digestible stuff that is in the packaged, processed and frozen foods we eat.
The only way consuming a healthy diet requires NO detox is if you are eating ORGANIC foods and if you buy organic foods from a main stream grocery store, well it may very well be NOT organic.
These chemicals and such are stored in the fat cells and are not healthy for us.0 -

well i just got this tip from the fat smash diet... amean its hard to follow, but ask yourself when are you going get to where you want. its just a learning process to eat right, and learn how to control your eatting0

well going with the detox diet you are saying its no healthy, well eating out is also bad for you too, but we all don't consider that bad? i have been on the detox diet or its call the smash fat diet, its been good so far... i've lost weight, and feel good0
