What can I bring for snacks at the bar?

When we go out, my friends are all indulging in whatever's available. Peanuts, salty, butter popcorn, pretzels, you name it. Then they move on to the menu which contains the normal bar fare..deep fried appetizers, cheeseburgers, etc. Anybody know of something low calorie that i can whip out of my purse while they snack, so I won't be tempted by all this??????

You could bring your own portioned out bags of peanuts or popcorn.
I do this for movies all the time! I pop up a bag of 100 calorie popcorn and stick it in a ziploc!
Wheat thins and hummus or carrots, celery, homemade pbj sandwiches.0 -
Get the 100 calorie snack packs. But I would just eat before you go out so you won't be tempted.

This so doesn't work for me. If food is in front of me even if I'm not hungry, I snack on it.
I think it'd be best to bring your own snacks so you can be eating with them and not tempted that way.0 -
I would feel weird bringing my own food to a bar, but maybe that's just me. I know in VA bars have to sell a certain % of food along with drinks, so I'd be worried about getting kicked out if I was caught!
I usually order a low cal drink and keep a glass of water handy. I can nurse those throughout the night and not feel like my hands are free to go wandering around the bar snacks. Or, look up the menu in advance (easy if you're going to a chain restaurant like Unos or Chilis) and order something sensible and within your calorie budget that you can eat while they're chowing down on wings.
Or maybe vote to move the next girls' night to somewhere with fewer temptations?0 -
Well, I'd say the peanuts are generally okay to snack on, as long as it's not by the bowlfuls. If they do have normal bar food, you could get a veggie plate of celery and carrot sticks. I KNOW those are traditionally accompanying buffalo wings.0

Thanks guys for the tips. Here's what I did: Since we go to a steak house for happy hour since the drinks are cheap and strong, and they have free food which usually consists of veggies, dip, nachos, cheese and crackers, and a different meat hors d'oeveres (sp?) choice, i usually snack on the veggies. But before I get there, I did make my dinner and eat it beforehand, so I was able to pass up on the appetizers there. It's just that when we got to the next place to play trivia, and by then, the drinks are setting in and everybody was eating greasy deep fried appetizers accompanied with huge burger baskets. But I passed. And in the end, I felt better about myself and declined when offered fries and other greasy delectables from their plates. But it's incredibly hard!!!0
