I am always well under my calorie deficit for the day. I exercise a lot and I eat a lot. I never deprive myself of food. I am always eating. So it just really makes no sense to me when people comment I need to eat more. I think it is totally untrue. Especially since I have lost 12 pounds already.

  • I think it's what works for you, personally. I only eat my exercise calories back if I'm hungry, but oftentimes, I am.
Your body is pretty smart, and it will let you know if it needs more.
And if you hit a plateau, you can always try eating more :)

I've lost over 50lbs and people who have lost way less than me tell me I don't eat enough... so annoying! I eat tons of lean protein and veggies, no processed foods... super healthy! Just brush 'em off and do your thing ;)
  • Believe me...I'm with you on this one

People are not telling you this to be mean or to watch you fail. That being said... please keep it in mind if you hit a plateau. adding more calories does help. You won't know if you are eating too few of calories until something happens.... like, you get dizzy, feel irritated, start binging, start gaining weight or stop losing weight. Do what works for you at this point in time:0 Good luck on your journey!
  • preach it =P
  • One thing you need to make sure of is your hitting your main calorie goal if your working out. When you work out you will burn calories. You might not see it now but if you don't supply your body with the nutrition it needs you will break down muscle. Muscle weighs more so if it breaks down it will add to your weight loss. The reason why it adds on extra calories to eat when you do cardio is because your body needs to keep the balance and will allow you to eat more to do so. If you are burning off muscle your gym workout becomes useless. Your just barely maintaining your muscles at that point. Remember also, muscle helps to burn fat so breaking it down is a bad thing. What I do is eat about half of them because I'm just hungry. Loosing a lot of weight really quickly is a sign of that. Its set up for up to two pounds a week but everybody is different. Your probably doing fine. As long as your eating enough to refuel your system your good. Hope I could help a little. Feel free to friend me if you have any questions. And good job so far. Keep it up.....

Clearly, no one is going to change your mind on this, and I'm probably wasting my fingers. But just for the sake of others who may read this and be willing to be open minded...

First, your weight loss so far is almost certainly water weight and a bad ratio of adipose/muscle loss. It is very easy to restrict calories to a level below what is needed for maintenance (BMR+Daily Activity+Exercise) for a short period, and you will lose weight. But it will be temporary. You will plateau and/or gain weight back, eventually.

While your body is adjusting during the first couple of weeks, or even month, of a new routine, it is common to lose your appetite and FEEL like you are getting enough to eat. This does not mean you are providing enough fuel.

Lastly, if you are willing to actually learn the reason why people tell you this, here are some good threads that explain the science regarding metabolism, calorie deficits and fat vs. muscle loss and what is a SUSTAINABLE weight loss.
