Hello there all! So, I am looking at buying a wedding dress soon and heres my deal: my wedding is a year and 3 months away....i tried on some dresses and they were 14s and fit perfect. I have been steadily losing weight for the past few months...but havent really gone down in sizes of regular clothes.....Im only looking at losing about 10 more pounds sooooo should i get a 14 when the time comes.?..wait longer to get a dress? get the 14 then have it altered if need be? HELP! its a $1250 dress that i dont want to mess up!!

I bought a dress that fit when I bought it and then just had it altered to fit closer to my wedding day. It worked out perfectly. Just make sure you have it altered by someone who has a lot of experience with altering wedding dresses and you should be fine!0

I agree. I got married in April and lost weight before the wedding. Had the dress altered right before and it fit perfectly. If you go to the right boutique, normally they will make you do several fittings and adjust accordingly anyway. They will want you to look perfect just like you want to and will do everything to make that happen!0 -
I would wait just a little bit and then go from there. That is a lot of money and you would not want to waste it. They can only alter so small and what if you would loose the weight in an odd place and it made the dress look different. But if its 10lbs and 10lbs only you should be okay with the dress your looking at. But if you plan to loose more than that I would wait.0

I agree - buy it in the size today and have it altered. A good dress maker will do that anyway as standard sizes don't fit most women exactly.
I am getting married in July and had my dress ordered in September in the size I was then even now I am almost a dress size smaller now and hopefully 2 sizes smaller by July!0 -

I agree. If you are planning to lose only 10lbs, then the 14 should fit just fine. I got married in May and lost about 10 lbs after having ordered my dress. It fit even better and was comfortable on my wedding day. I was pushing it though, had I lost more weight then the dress would've been a bit too big on me. You have time to buy your dress. You can even wait a couple of months and see where you are 'weight' wise. I say this because alterations are expensive. If you don't mind altering the dress though, then go ahead and order it.
The style most also be taken into consideration ... so ultimately you know what's best for you. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. Stay hydrated and eat well as the day approaches. Often times we get caught up with the planning and forget to take care of ourselves. If you don't stay hydrated and eat well, the toll on your body will show on your pics. Yikes!0 -
I'm hoping to find one this Saturday and I still have a little way to go, don't worry, a friend says they get this all the time and alterations are almost always needed.
I am going to go with whatever I fall in love with and get it altered when I'm (fingers crossed) a little lighter and a bit closer to the big day!
Hope you find the perfect dress!!:flowerforyou:0 -
6 1/2 years ago I bought my wedding dress that fit but then lost a ton of weight!! It had to be taken in A LOT but it fit great. If you love the dress then buy it. Be sure to talk to the dress shop to see if the style of dress can be altered easily.0

Say yes to the dress now! You can always have it altered closer to your wedding date!0

My friend owns a Bridal Shop. She says, don't buy a dress with the hopes of loosing weight. Buy the dress that fits and alter it.0

My niece bought her gown at a size 12, and dropped to a tiny size 4 before the wedding. David's Bridal replaced her gown at no extra charge, since it wasn't possible to alter it that much. Everyone was impressed with that kind of customer service! (And her weight loss!)
Find out what the store policies are, and ask them for suggestions. It's very common for brides to be to fluctuate in size.0 -
If the dress fits 'perfectly' now, a lot of bridal shops will actually have you buy UP a size because samples do tend to stretch and not fit like a NEW one will. I worked in a bridal store for 3 years, and this was a standard recommendation for all of our clients. It can always be altered - those women really can work a lot of magic!0

I say buy it now. If it is the one you really want and love it can be altered! My dream dress was about 4 or 5 sizes too big and I was already at a good weight so I bought it knowing it HAD to be altered. I had many fittings and the dress had to be cut quite a bit but at the end of the day it fit like a glove!0
