Just a general question. I take a One-a-day Women's to help with my anemia. It was recommended by my doctor. Normally there isn't an issue but for a couple weeks now I've felt flustered, Nausea, and just a little gross after taking it. I know it;s the vitamin because it's literally right after I take it. If this lasts I'll ask one of the docs at work about it, but I didn't know if others have this issue. I might just be thinking about it too much for no reason.

Replies

  • Are you taking it with food? I take my vitamin (the teenage one-a-day) right after a meal and that usually helps me, otherwise I feel nauseous too.
  • Are you eating something before you take it? I have that same feeling if I don't eat enough before I take a vitamin.

Not a big fan of One-A-Days. If you put one in a glass of water and let it desolve you're gonna have a big pile of fillers & sand. Last time I checked sand isn't a part of our bodies. Look for a vitamin with no fillers, no talc, something all natural, etc. A great one is Meta-Genics Multi Genic. Rainbow Light also makes a good one.

I also had a problem with one a day vitamin for women (it made me sick, broke out in sweats and dizzy....) then I asked some friends about their vitamins and they said the same thing about one a day for women. Apparently some women can not take it, why, I don't know. I changed to Centrum (which has the same ingredients) and never had a problem.

WOW! That's good to know. Yuck! Thanks for the suggestion on a healthier alternative!

Wow. I just checked my Centrum and it has talc in it.

I find taking vitamins with food better. Plus there is more chance your body will absorb more of the nutrients in the vitamin.
  • I can't take regular vitamins. I get so sick!! I've tried taking them with food, right before bed... and nothing helped!!
I've started taking adult gummy vitamins (I buy the Target knock-off brand) and I have absolutely no issues anymore.

Yes, .... IDK why they cannot make them taste better... but keep your vitamins in the fridge it takes away some of that vitamin taste and it helps with that vitamin burp back. I saw it on Dr. OZ for my Fish Oil Tabs I take, but I have noticed it helps with all of them. Also don't take them on an empty tummy and you might want to try and take them at night. I take some that really get to me at night and some of mine in the am hours, but always after I eat.

Every time I would take a regular multi-vitamin, I would get sick. Now, I take Vitamin D3, magnesium, and a generic prenatal. I take everything before going to bed and no longer have problems.

Maybe have your doctor recommend individual vitamins that you need to supplement your diet and take those instead of a multi that may contain ones you dont really need. Hope you feel better!

I have a high quality multi vitamin from a health food store (I'll have to check the brand name when I get home and look close at all the indregidents) but it's all I can do to finish the bottle. I'm pretty sure I'm having a mild allergic reaction/intolerance to it (and yes, I take it with lunch). I can smell the pill when I take it and not long after it gives me a head ache, makes my face very flush and feel a little light headed. They cost me a fortune, so I'm stubbornly trying to finish the bottle.

So, I will be looking for a good quality multi vitamin for women. Any suggestions?

I also used to have this problem. I've tried many different brands, with food, milk, etc and always got nauseous afterwards. What worked for me is switching to chewables. Now I take Centrum chewables and never have a prolem.

Call them and tell them! You can probably exchange it or get a refund. Can't ever go wrong with some Lysine or Vitamin C!

Yea I take it with food most days. I do notice a difference on days I don't get a chance to eat. I'll ask him what could cause it. I take one a day because it's what was recommended. I haven't had a problem with it before so I rather not take something else and take a step back on things. I have issues with this... I know pills in general are harsher on women.
