  • Fresh Fruit, Whey protein shake and ice with a little bit of water.. YUM!!
  • Strawberry, mango, vanilla whey protein, Ice, and a bit of water. It's one of my faves. You could also do banana instead of mango.
  • Would you make any with yogurt? Sometimes I put a little yogurt in. But below is a recipe I use as well.

2 small bananas (or one large one)
    2 strawberries
    1/2 cup of orange juice
    couple ice cubes

    Blend
  • If you're trying to avoid all dairy I don't know that I can help you. We make smoothies for breakfast every morning:

-2 cups of plain, nonfat yogurt (comes in 4 cup containers)
    -1 banana
-1 cup frozen fruit (strawberries, cherries, blackberries whatever works for you)
-2 scoops protein powder (we use EAS brand from Sam's)

Blend it all up, serves 2. About 340-350 calories depending on your choice of fruit and protein powder.

If you want to avoid dairy completely maybe try almond or soy milk.
  • herer is how I make mine....
1 cup of fruit ( I usually do 1/2 cup of two different ones)
1/2 a container of the Edge protein (it comes in boxes and I get the vanilla kind and the carb control)
1 container of dannon sugar and carb control yogurt
    ice
    a little vanilla extract
1/2 a cup of organic no sugar added soymilk
and blend til your heart is happy (sometimes I have to add a little water!)

    APPLE PIE ALAMODE.

    6oz apple juice
    6 oz water
    1 scoop vanilla whey protein
    1/8 tsp. cinamon.
    6 ice cubes

    Blend
top off with a dollup of fat free whipped cream, sprinkle with a little more cinamon.
  • Please remember that by blending fruit for smoothies, sugars are released so are not a low calorie option if that was the reason for wanting to make them!

While fruit sugar is not as bad for the body as common white sugar, fruit smoothies should be consumed with caution by those with diabetes or blood sugar concerns

However, for a non milk based smoothie that will help promote weightloss, the below ingrediantswill help

    # 2 bananas
    # 1/2 cup of blueberries
    # 1/2 cup of strawberries
    # 1 pint apple juice
    # 1 cup ice chips/crushed ice

    Good luck!

I noticed many of you are putting protein in your smoothies. What's the benefit? Thanks!

I do on some. I make a mint one that has:

8 oz fat free milk, or water
    1 cup spinnach
    1 frozen banana
    1/4 tsp peppermint extract
1 to 2 scoops of whey protein(I prefer vanilla, because the green spinnach makes it green giving it a mint icecream look. Chocolate protein doesn't look as appetizing.)
    5 to 10 icecubes.

I have been smoothie OBSESSED lately because my mom got me a Magic Bullet for Christmas. I love it! For my smoothies, I just throw in whatever fruit I have around with a little bit of fruit juice and/or water. OJ is excellent in smoothies. But so are berry juices, etc. I buy a lot of frozen fruit so that I dont have to put ice in (I cant drink stuff that's too cold). One of my favorite combos is:
    1 banana
    5-8 frozen strawberries
Some chunks of pineapple from the can
    Pineapple juice from the can
    Fruit juice, OJ, or water

You can kindof improv smoothie combos with whatever fruits you like. I also discovered recently that we have a tub of applesauce sitting in the fridge that no one has touched in months (but it doesnt expire until july) so I've been using that, too. Not a huge fan of applesauce alone, but in the smootie, it's barely even noticeable.

The raspberries make it a light brown color.

Jillian Micaaels Pure Protein chocolate is pretty good and you mix with water. If you do mix it with milk it does taste a bit creamier :)

I like mine with a frozen banana and peanut butter. :)
