Cycle enthusiasts!

Hey guys. Im current doing a project for university in which i am trying to promote an energy drink and i need to come up with a new target audience. I am going to focus on female cyclists, aged between say 20 and 40. ((Please note mods, this is not in any way promoting anything. This is a made up project that does not have anything to do with any companies, i am just looking for opinions.))
I am a keen cyclist myself but i was also looking for other views from people the same age and older! Things i was looking for is words that relate to cycling, what do you feel when you cycle, do you cycle for fitness or for pleasure also, and are there any other reasons (escapism?)
Also, what kind of colours and shapes would you assosiate with cycling (this is the tricky part). Is pink too much of a girly colour associated with teens? What colours do you guys like?
Thanks for your help

Hey there!!
I'm 37 and LOVE cycling.
My ex & I rode 10+ years ago before the kiddos came around. We averaged 150 - 200 miles/week. Pure enjoyment.
Kids kept me off the bike for 9 years. When I met my boyfriend in 2008 I discovered he was an avid cyclist so I dusted my machine off and jumped back on. It didn't take long for me to wonder how I ever let so much time pass since I had last ridden.
Kids & work definately cut into the time I get to spend riding. During the summer (no wating for the school bus) I commute to work (7 miles each way) on my bike. We will also squeeze in some evening rides and usually manage 30 - 60 miles every other weekend (when the kids are with the ex).
As far as reasons I ride - pure love. I've discovered a sense of self confidence that comes with getting yourself where you want to go with your own power and the knowledge that I can fix most anything on the bike that may arise during a ride. Escapism? That could be a good word. A stressful day at work can be cured by taking the long way home and decompressing up a hill. I just feel an elation that is likely leftover from when I rode as a kid.
I'm in the camp that definately thinks pink is way overdone in marketing. Just because I happen to be female doesn't mean all my gear needs to be pink. I usually make a concerted effort NOT to purchase gear that is pink just for the sake of being pink. I do like bright colors. Neon (day-glo?) green, orange & yellow are favorites of mine.
I hope that helps. If you need any more info from, I'd suggest friending me. I usually don't think to go back into threads I've posted in.
Good luck!
