So I’ve been lurking around here for a few weeks and have seen really good progress so far with the changes I’ve made to my lifestyle. Super excited, and feeling motivated!
But- I’m also realizing that I’m not sure what my goals should be. I am losing weight, my clothes already fit better, and I’m gaining a lot of muscle. I know this is so subjective…but what do you guys think is a reasonable weight for me to shoot for? I’m 5’8” and so far down to 166 from 170.

for an averaged frame woman the ideal weight is 100lbs at 5' and add 5 lbs/inch. So at 5'8" you would ideally be 140 lbs (100+8*5). If you are lager frame the number would be higher, and if you are a small frame lower.
for a man the calculation is at 5' = 106 and add 6lbs per inch.

Weight is the worst way to measure where you should be first off. I just answered this question so I will tell it again. A year and a half ago I was working out like a mad woman. I am 5'10 and I got down to 160. Now my lowest weight I remember is 145. So I figured I would shoot for that, but could never reach it. When I went to the doc to check my thyroid-runs in the fam-I said, I can't lose anymore weight. He said-please don't lose anymore. At 160 I was able to fit into a size 10, a size I normally can only fit at a 145. I was doing so much weight training that my body was as lean at 160 as it normally is at 145. So maybe pick a size to fit into that is realistic to your body type and not a weight. I wish everyone would go out and the their body fat tested-by calipers not those silly machines you hold on to. Fat percentage is the best way to go by!!0

150 would put you right in the enter of what BMI charts say you should be. But ultimately it's subjective. I chose a weight goal kind of arbitrarily initially. When I reached it I realized I still wasn't where I wanted to be so I adjusted from there. My sister, on the other hand doesn't care about ending weight, she has a clothing size goal in mind.
It's ultimately a personal preference, but one that can always be changed later on if that preference changes. So I'd say start with something that sounds good to you right now and then go from there.0 -
I did a search on ideal weight with frame size included. The site had me use a measuring tape to measure my wrist and told me what my frame was and how much I should weigh. The difference in frame size was about 5 pounds of weight difference in ideal weight.0

I know, I know...you're totally right. I'm just searching for a tangible goal I guess. Instead of a goal weight, maybe I should have a goal pair of pants!0 -

Im not sure about ideal weights, cause I get so many different answers. Im 5'3" with a medium frame, but really Im shooting for behing able to finally be happy and comfortable with my own appearance. Set an estimate target, like 140, and get as close as you can to it. Im shooting for 130 ish, if I can reach 110 I think Id be happy, but my doctor says I wont get passed 150 without becoming unhealthy... but good luck!0

Yes-I have a pair of goal pants. I wore them once or twice and when I put them on again they were HUGE-haha. Get some goal pants-that is a good goal!!0

I'm 5'8 and right before I got pregnant I was 150. I was pretty happy there. in a size 6, a 4 in some dresses. I'd like to get there again but not quite sure if I can.0
