I am sorry. I keep reading about BMI. Do you know this is the worst indicator for weight in the world. I don't know who came up with it, but every body is different. I will give you an example. Lets pretend I am 5'7 and weight 250 lbs. I am overweight right? (I am not really talking about myself just giving an example) So let me tell you more stuff about this 5'7 person-their body fat percentage is 10%. Overweight-HECK NO. So someone with HUGE muscles weighs way over their BMI but has a really small body fat percentage, probably a body builder.

Last year I was at the HIGH end of my BMI so I thought I should be losing more weight. Yet I was in the smallest size I can remember being and this was at 20 lbs more than I usually am at that size. I go to the doc to ask why I can't lose anymore. He says-because you don't need to. Pleading with me to stop trying. I had put on so much muscle mass that I was much heavier.

I am now in a personal training program-soon to be done. I wish someone would have introduced me to body fat percentage and calipers so much long before and maybe I would not have been so obsessed with losing more and just enjoyed looking as a good as I did.

So please, weight is a fine thing to go by, but don't wallow in it. Instead look at how your clothes are fitting, because I know we don't all have calipers sitting around out house!!

  • I agree.....

I have a fairly large frame myself and was into weight training in college. I can not use the BMI calculators or the BMR calculator. If i get to carried away on the goals set by this site I am not getting enough intake. I am still making progress but am going to have to track measurements and fat percentage as well.

They are a handy tool (BMI & BMR calculators) but are not the "law of the land" as they say
