On Saturday my mom and I will be going on an 8 mile snowshoe hike. The guide that is leading the hike suggested we bring lots of high carb food. My question is what kind of food can I take that are high in carbs but still healthy? I plan on making whole wheat pasta the night before for dinner. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't worry TOO much about that. And definitely don't try to refuel yourself with fruit. (sorry dude. lol!) You need something that packs a punch. Trail mix. Energy bars. Waking in the snow is hard work, and you need some calories to keep you strong. Not enough fuel is the reason a lot of hikers stumble and hurt themselves. Loading up on pasta the day before is also done.

If you live close to a health food store i would stock up on some high carb bars like Cliff Bars or Wheat bagels!

CLIF, luna, and larabar have great trail mix type granola bars that would be great and healthy for you to bring! You could also make your own trail mix from the organic aisle in your store... pretzels, sesame sticks, add some nuts for protein so you aren't hungry the whole time, put in some candies or those gummy things (I love them and the organic ones are so much tastier than the ones with crap sugar in them!) or whatever you want.

I'm taking Clif bars, some Trader Joe's trial mix and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on whole wheat bread. Thanks for the suggestions!
