Continuous cardio or a mix?

I've been with the program for almost two weeks now and was told by the gym's trainer to do 10 min of rigorous cardio then strength train, then back to cardio for ten, and so on... I read yesterday, however, that to lower your cholesterol you need to keep your heart rate up continuously for at least 30 minutes. So, today I worked on the elliptical for 30 minutes straight (though the last 5 minutes I admit the thought of needing to revise my will did come into mind) and had nothing left for strength training. Any thoughts or ideas on this???

The mix will help you burn more calories, because it fluctuates your heart rate... Circuit Training is huge in weight loss. Your heart rate is high for 1-3 minutes and then drops. It's basically exercising your heart and teaching it to burn more calories when your not working out.

That's good info. I like breaking up my cardio, b/c I tend to get bored and like the diversion of strength training. Thanks so much :)

I do this simply because I get so bored on the elliptical or treadmill, going for a full 1/2 hour of more. I have also found, when I know I only have ten minutes of anything, I push myself much harder than I would if I have 30 minutes to go!

Also, when I do cardio then weight training my heart rate is still pretty elevated the whole time. I think enough the help with the choloesterol issue.
