I really can tell the difference between a day with exercise and a day without!!!! I feel so much more engergized and just "good" However I work 3 12hour shifts and on those days I find it's impossible to get exercise in!!!! I leave my house around 530a and not home until about 8 and I'm exhausted (more likely to cheat) Any suggestions !!!!

I hear you! im not a nurse but I work in the hospital and I work 12 hour shifts as well
I always pack my lunch and leave my money at home so i cant go to the cafateria and get anything else
I always eat my biggest meal at supper time.. and that way when im home (at 7pm) I dont feel like snacking
also, during change of shift I make sure to drink a bottle of water .. to fill up even more
I try to drink 2 glasses of water before each meal while working too, to help.
and when I get off I try to keep busy by preparing my lunch and showering and getting clothes ready
and then i go right to bed to not eat.
as far as exercise, its tough during a 12 hour shift.
I just try to take the stairs instead of the elevator.. and I walk as much as I can.. walk in place while on the phone, or take the long way to get somewheres to get the extra steps in0 -
Do you own a slow cooker? They are brilliant for cooking dluring the day when you are not at home, but when you come in through the door, Oooooooooooooooh the smell is wonderfull - diner done - no hard work to do just eat and enjoy, leaving time for you to do what ever you want.
Hope this helps.0 -
They don't tell you the true "joys" of being a nurse in nursing school! I'm a nurse too and the 12's are nice because you get more days off but When I work 12's.. that's the only thing I do that day is work. I bring my lunches to work. I don't ever really go to the cafeteria and I never eat the food people bring in. I def. do not workout on those days either. I consider the 12 hr shift a workout initself. Its impossible. I tried once after work and I was practically falling asleep walking on the treadmill and my legs were super crampy. I tried once waking up at 5:30 to work out before a 12.. that didn't work very well either.
good luck!0
