I'm curious what BMI you all will be aiming for. I have a Wii fit and it tells me that obviously a healthy BMI is 22.00 and I hit it on the nose this morning, thus, re-setting my goal on my wii which would put my new goal at 21.60 (if I lose 2more pounds) my ultimate goal being 115 (8more pounds) putting my BMI probably somewhere near 21ish. So what is your goal? Or where will your BMI be when you do reach your goal?

Obviously the wii cannot encourage me to go below 22.00, but I owuld like to know from you all what you think is a good BMI!?

My goal was/is to be within a healthy BMI and I literally just hit 25, so am delighted with that, officially not overweight anymore!

I want to lose a little more weight, a BMI of 23, 24 would be nice, I basically want to have a little margin below 25.
  • Hmmm. My current BMI is 22.6 - my goal weight (140 lbs and 13 pounds lighter than my current weight) puts my BMI at 20.7.. I'm sorta in the same boat you are and am hoping someone has a great answer to this question.

CONGRATS!! It feels so great to be healthy doesn't it? I was just barely over weight when I started my journey, but I remember getting into that healthy weight zone and feeling so proud of myself. Congrats girl!

I new on here and where do I find my BMI I know I found it before but cant find it again!
  • My BMI is currently 20.8 which is healthy according to the standards yet my body fat is higher than desirable, my weight is also considered healthy yet my endurance/muscle strength is low. Keeping track of all these numbers is challenging, I believe its more person specific than a guidance number. Do you feel good? do you have good stamina, so you feel strong and healthy?

Hmmm - 5 pounds over MY ideal weight, but still not bad. Thanks for the link.

I just did a body fat calculation and I think I'd like my body fat to go down. Maybe that is what I will focus on more than my actual weight.

"Minimum caloric requirements: 1721 Calories per day"

Holy crap...I can't imagine being able to maintain while eating that many calories everyday, that's what the website told me when I entered in all of my info!! So now the new question what should your body fat% be?

The caloric needs calculator here gave me less then what MFP would give me. Definitely not 1700 - wow. I would gain if I ate that much in a day.

I normally don't go by a BMI, it always tells me I am underweight....just don't feel they are that accurate...

and this states that I would need to take in only 1000.64 calories per day to maintain....so I guess that would open up the big bad debate on starvation mode.....

My BMI is at 22 at the present time. By calculator I could still lose another 20lbs and be in a "healthy" range. I'd just like to lose 7 more to be at my goal weight.

I did this. It said my happy weight should be 188.1 lbs (right about where I am), but then I saw it was based on me being a woman LOL.

my BMI is 22.9, which is as low as I would want to go.

The BMI is not accurate at all. I am 6'1 275 (somewhere in that area) and my body fat is 29%. But BMI says it's 36%. The reason is I am very muscular person. And muscle weights more then fat! But the BMI chart does not know that. about me. My goal weight is around 200-210. Which would put me around %10 body fat. But according to the BMI chart, I'd still be overweight.

WOW, How's that you think? So if you did lose another 20 your BMI would roughly be 18 right?

The online calculators are all very different. I recently did an experiment, I put my info into 12 online body fat calculators and got wildly different numbers. I'm really not sure I trust even the average.

I did 12, threw out the top and bottom (I figure, if it's good enough for figure skating it's good enough for me) and averaged the remaining 10. Here are all my results.

    16.19 - Navy
    18.88 - YMCA
    31.82 - Health Central
    18.5 - Scientific Psychic
3.6 - nhlbsupport (they got tossed as my bottom)
    16.13 - Live stronge
    13 - CSG network
32 - Active (got tossed as my top)
    13.47 - Free Dieting
    24.54 - Runners World
    16.2 - Changing shape
    17.06 - Dr Sears

The average of the 10 remaining was 18.579. I don't really feel like I can trust this, but it was an interesting exercise, and now I've measured just about every part of my body.

Didn't think of it like that...It may be mre accurate for someone like myself who is pretty average as far as lean muscle and what not go, thanks!

    hmmmmm...

    Hmm..

MFP tells me 1,640 Calories / Day is what I would need to maintain my weight. (Activity Level: Sedentary Working out for 20 minutes 4x week.)
The self calculator tells me 1329.55 to maintain. (Activity Level: Sedentary)

With my experience I know that if I ate 1600 calories a day I would gain weight.

Oh I def. would too...1600 is alot! Haha listen to us, we probably ate well over that before we started this lifestyle change...I think 1200 is a pretty safe number. Maybe a little extra on the days I work out hard...because I tend to be hungrier on those days anyway!

My goal BMI is 19.0. Body fat wise I'd like to get to between 13-20%. I'm at 28% now and its embarrassing to think that about a third of me is fat! (well according to navy/army standard calculations I am, I've yet to have it tested in a gym)

This tells me my happy weight is 139.2lbs... I am currently 126.1lbs and I can tell you that my weight has NOTHING to do with my happiness.

Your "happy weight" has nothing to do with the scale and everything to do with making choices that make you feel good about your body and yourself. And when you're HAPPY - No one sees the weight.

Try to focus less on the scale and your BMI and more on being the healthiest - and happiest - version of you every single day.

I have my maintenance set to 1500, but I regularly consume between 1800 and 2000 cals a day with exercise and am maintaining my weight just fine. Don't be afraid to eat!
