Have you had to re-adjust your calories? (goal)

I dropped 10lbs fast in the beginning (2 weeks) but now i'm not losing anything. And before you say it's all water, I have a low sodium diet and drink lots and lots of water even before I started this.

I re-adjusted my goal today to see what my calorie tracker would be... has anyone else had to lower their calories to lose the rest of their weight?

Please HELP!!

  • I just lost 4 lbs and my calories went from 1,230 to 1,210. Not huge, but a change.

Yes. As you lose weight your body (will in general) require less calories. On the iPhone it asks if you wish to re-evaluate your calories when you lose over 10 pounds.

This is typically the case as the more you weigh the more cals you burn. That being said the closer you get to your goal the smaller your daily caloric deficit should be. If you are set up to lose more than one pound per week I would change this to 1.b or preferably 0.5lbs per week. this will give you more calories to eat, and a lot of time, especially when you are near your goal, it takes more calories, not less, to spark weight loss

I dropped my calories just because my weight loss appears to be stagnant. I have a hard time staying below them and am going to have to make some adjustments in my diet and exercise to consistently get below, but that was the point I guess.

That's really weird... mine hasn't changed from the beginning and my iPhone app didn't ask me to either?? That's strange

I just looked at your diary. The min for a man should be closer to 1500 net, and i see your goal is 1200, you may not be losing as your are not eating enough.

I started around my maintenance and have been skimming 100-200 calories every week or two so I don't plateau.

I haven't lost in a few weeks so I changed my activity level to the next one down. It's not a big difference but we'll see how that goes...

I lost 13 lbs and changed my info today and went from 1310 cals to 1200 ... (for 1.8 lbs a week)
(also changed my activity level since I am spending only 2 hours at the gym - and rest at my desk...)

I was also just going to add that I think you may need to eat more, not less. 1200 is crazy low for a man.

Good luck on your journey I hope you find a way that works for you.

My weight loss stalled for a month so I adjusted the goal from losing 1 1/2 lbs a week to 1 and weight loss has resumed. I think I got to a point where I was eating to few calories.

AN EXAMPLE: for women, someone weighing roughly between 135-160 your body burns about 1700 calories daily just from doing normal activities, so in order to maintain your weight, you would need to eat 1700 calories right?

that being said, if you don't exercise and eat more than 1700 calories, you begin to gain weight, (obvious common knowledge)

if you want to lose weight, you must eat less than 1700 cal, depending on how much you want to lose determines how much less you should eat.

mine is set at 1lb per week, so i eat 500 calories less than 1700cal. which is 1200cal.

It is unhealthy to lose too much weight per week, it is also unhealthy to eat any less than 1200 calories per day, not working out. Its ESPECIALLY unhealthy to eat below 1200 if you are working out, your body will not recover as quickly because there isn't anything for it to "eat" in esscense, and repair itself with. and because of this it will start to eat your muscle, NOT your fat.

Yes your weight will go down, but its muscle not fat. Your muscles are what helps burn fat, the more muscle you have on your body, the more weight you will lose in a quicker amount of time.

another dangerous thing when you eat less than 1200 cal. is that you put your body into starvation mode. What this means, is that the next time you feed your body, (especially with non complex carbs and proteins) your body will store it as fat, to protect itself from dying.

your weight will only go down if you are feeding it good wholesome food.
A trick to remember is this, anything you can run under the kitchen faucet, that doesn't fall apart or turn to mush immediately, are foods that your body will have to work harder at breaking down, causing you to eat the same amount of calories, but by making your body work harder, you will trigger healthy weight loss.

hopefully this helped. I tend to type a lot. :)

Weird. When I enter my weight on my iPhone it will give me a message saying something like "you have now lost over 10 pounds. Do you wish to re-evaluate your calorie intake".
