So I started bartending p/t on the weekends at a club, its a fun place great music and you are allowed to drink while you work. I find myself doing lotsa shots bc random ppl will buy them for me and i will admit i like to drink, i dnt want this screwing with my weight loss. I dont drink at all during the rest of the week im always under cal goal and i work out 6 days a week. Since it is the weekend and i dont get to go out with friends my friends will come in to seee me and i figure well if i wasnt here id be out prob having drinks so whats the big deal? This is prob a dumb question but do u think this will effect my weight loss in a big way?

Alcohol is heavy on calories and no nutritional value. Much better to spend your calories on food than on it. Some now and then won't hurt, but look up the calories in some shots/drinks in the database to see what you would be consuming. It's scary!

If you keep to only drinking several drinks that one night of the week, log them, and drink plenty of water you can manage it. Obviously not drinking at all is ideal for your weight loss, but that can be unrealistic for some people (me included). How many shots do you typically do a night? Do you get to a point where you're not feeling so hot the next day?

In my opinion, as long as you drink in moderation, you can incorporate a few drinks into your daily budget...but getting totally wasted every 6 or 7 days is tough on your body.

Yes, it will affect your weight loss. I'm in favor of drinks but depending on what your drinking it can be very high in calories.

I agree - it can derail your diet fast if you're not careful, even with all the workouts. Alcohol is loaded with sugar - tons of liquid, empty calories that will quickly turn to fat. Try to moderate how much you have. Good luck! *hugs*

Yes, it will definitely be a big roadblock to weight loss. Besides the calories that are in alcohol, the chemical make up of alcohol releases substances that greatly reduce your body's ability to burn fat. Indulging once in a while is okay, but you're going to eventually have to make a choice between enjoying drinking and losing weight.

I searched it on the forums before and I think people said that it slows your metabolism...I think they said your body will want to burn the sugar in alchohol first then the fat. You should try to find other postings on it.

I think that is how I gained most of my weight in college :( honestly when I drink I also want to eat so I end up going way over on calories and it just really hurts my weightloss...I gave it up for the most part and it totally sucks not being able to have a glass of wine everynight like I used to. I just know that with me one glass turns to two and then three :) If you can quit after a few you have far more will power than me :) Good luck!

I'm in college right now so it's hard for me not to drink, so I try to limit it to one or two nights a week. I used to think that by drinking hard alcohol with diet soda, it would be less calories than drinking beer, but I looked up the calories of some hard liquors and just 1 shot has 100 calories!!! It's absolutely horrifying knowing how many calories you can easily consume in just a few hours of drinking. But if you limit your drinking to 1 night a week and you work out before drinking, it shouldn't have a huge effect on your weight loss.

I've said this before on MFP: I build my alcohol calories into my day. There's an added side bonus I guess you could say because I drink less since I get tipsy faster with less food in my tummy, lol.

But I've found as long as I am only drinking on the weekends when I go out, and I log it - every drink - and then follow up with tons of water the following couple of days, I am doing ok as long as I don't get the drunk munchies. :)
