After my divorce a few years ago, I have put on quite a bit of weight. I would like to loose at least 50 pounds, so I can feel better and fit into clothes. I am very uncomfortable with my body in many ways. I have researched what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat. I just need help with exercise tips and motivation. I am a full time student with 2 full time/part time jobs and at nights I just want to relax and watch tv on the couch. I would love to be able to talk with people to help motivate me and give me tips. What motivated you and how has your life changed? How often do you exercise and what kind of exercise do you do?? What things do you eat and what foods do you stay away from??
Please, if you have any advice, I am in great need.

    Awwww....sweetie. First of all *HUGS*

I typically do 45-60 minutes of cardio. I am wanting to start weight/strength training

Starting out you could make a commitment of say maybe 25-30 minutes of cardio......treadmill/elliptical/bike
  • That was my first goal, to walk/treadmill, then work my way up. I am setting small goals, and once I meet them, set another goal.
I would love to lift weights, but I have back problems, and it it just too much strain on my back, but I do want to try and see what I can accomplish after I loose a few pounds.
    Thank You!!!

I replaced my LOVE:love: of chips with POP Chips, Special K cracker chips.

    Hugs from me too!!!!

You have a busy schedule... that's what I've been struggling with this week too... FINALLY going out with friends but that means no time to excercise and of course we eat... I tried to be good one night and asked for steamed fish... but it came to the table with a slight batter on it and fried... lost in translation and everyone else had their food... so I just ate it... but tomorrow is a new day and I'm going to make sure I MAKE time to walk / jog...

Friend me and we'll help each other!!!!

Do you have a treadmill and an iphone?

One of the things that started my exercise motivation was an iphone app called couch to 5k. It's a running program that slowly builds you up to running 5k's over 9 weeks. Of course you can do this outside, but if you want to catch up on tv you can do it on a treadmill at home!

I'm about to start week 5 and i love it! If you're only just starting to exercise you might want to do a week or two of 30 minute brisk walks and then start the program. It's a great motivation and you will be amazed at how quickly you're fitness level increases. The first week was definitely NOT easy, it wasn't impossible either. If i did the first week now, i would breeze through! I would be able to do it 5 times over :)
  • no treadmill or iphone.....just walking when i can till i can afford a gym membership

for motivation go get undressed and look in the mirror Do you like what you see? Then make time to work out eat clean and lets not find excuses take it one day at a time but do it. dont slack and i promise after you see some results you WILL be hooked on the lifestyle
  • Getting back on track can be hard... especially when you're not feeling so hot about yourself! I'm a full time student with a full time job as well... it can be so tough. When I first came home from college I had 30 lbs to lose and as soon as I started eating right and working out the weight came off quickly.

Do you belong to a gym? What helped me get into a cycle of going to the gym was falling in love with some of the group classes my gym offered. I took up kickboxing, yoga and a boot camp class. It keeps you motivated, you make friends in the class, and you start to really want to be there... so it doesn't seem SO tough to get to the gym after a long day at work and in class. Also, I'm outdoorsy. I found a 3 mile course through a local park with great scenery... at first there was no way I could make it 3 miles but I worked my way up to it and now when it's nice out its my favorite work out. Change it up and find what you like!

As for eating... 5 small meals a day... it keeps you full so you don't overeat and helps you understand portion sizes. Whole grains and gluten free carbs like brown rice and quinoa, plenty of roasted or sauteed veggies, lean proteins like fish and grilled chicken, and good fats from things like nuts and avocados. And sugar has to go - stevia in place of sugar and agave nectar in things like tea or on oatmeal.

I've been at this weight loss/eating right/workout thing for a few years now and I've played around with a lot of different diets and workouts... so feel free to ask me anything! I'm here to help and rooting for you all the way. You're gonna rock it!

WHEN i first started what i did to motivate me was look for a picture of a FIT woman around my age in a fitness magazine(no celebs)....I found her and that made me get on the treadmill and shed my fat so I can get a crazy *kitten* stomach like hers....if your curious it is (viktoria telek).
set small goals and work at them everyday. nothing happens flopped on the couch, except gain weight like I did!...get at it girl get a little time and break a sweat!
