Everything is relative. Though I'm not one of the many overweight Americans, I have struggled with my weight since I was a child. At 100 pounds in sixth grade, I was a husky boy. And though I was fortunate enough to loose the extra weight before entering High School, I've always had a fluxuating waistline.

2009 was a rough year. We downsized and moved to a new city for my husband's job while my own career took a tumble. And through it all, I gained some weight. In August of 2010, my 5'8" frame supported 178 lbs of less than ideal weight. I exersized but still could not shed the excess weight.

I ran across an article on Paleo diets and started reading. I came across Marks Daily Apple and was inspired by an early article that simply asked me to try - for 30 days - to change my eating habits for the better. So, for 30 days, I challenged myself. I slipped more than a few times but eventually gained my footing.

Tracking my intake, seeing the calories, fat, carbs and proties was instrumental in my weight loss.

By December of 2010, my weight dropped to 160. Though I'd only lost 10% of my weight, I also lost 8% of my body fat. Now, I'm trimmer than I've been in 15 years and my journey continues.

My career is on the upswing and I have the energy to endure life's obstacles. I can't say that I no longer turn to food for comfort, I just do so less than before. My hope is that when I double the distance from today to the start of my journey, I'll do so even less. After all, it's all relative.

And though I was uncertain that I would ever make it to this weight, this shape and, this level of health, I know that as time passes, I'll be stronger.

Stay strong, everyone.
