help stay on track for permenopausal women

are there women like me out there that have the hardest time getting the weight loss thing going...I eat healthy and lose nothing...it takes me weeks of exercising and dieting ...it doesn't come off like it used to and its hard not to get discouraged....this getting older thing is for the birds...but I am still sticking with it

Heck yeah. But persistence pays off! Sometimes it really takes a LOT more than you might expect it should in order to make progress. An older, slower metabolism and hormonal changes play hell with your system. But what's the alternative? Just give up and be miserable? I did that for 8 years and it got me to 215 pounds, plantar fasciitis, huffing and puffing up the stairs to the office, needing a shoe horn to get my butt into a seat at the football stadium, high blood pressure, nasty blood lipids, metabolic syndrome, etc.
For a long time I didn't really believe I could change, but sheer determination (and fear of having a stroke or getting diabetes like so many people around me) got me going. Now I'm 125, can walk/jog 12 miles a DAY, can RUN up the stairs and laugh about it, great blood pressure and cholesterol numbers, no hint of diabetes, I feel fabulous and get lots of compliments on how I look.
Is it worth the struggle??? You bet your *kitten* it is!!!0 -
Hi, I hear you and I'm right there with you. I have had some struggles in this area, myself. I am experimenting with my sodium intake. I'm trying to stay between 1500 and 2000 mg per day. Key word there is "trying". I find that the weight is coming off when I keep my sodium in that range. I think it's because I'm eating more fresh foods, and less processed foods. My food diary is open. You're welcome to take a look. I'm hoping diet and excersize will help me though this stage of life healthy and happy! Good luck!!0

Patience and persistance. It will come off sooner or later. I will drop like crazy for a week or so, then plateau for 2-3 weeks over and over again. I have found that as I got older my body liked carbs too much. I have limited my wheat and starch intake some and have done better. I still have my oatmeal and fruits, but not so much on the bread, rice, potatoes and corn. I avoid the sugars, corn syrup and the artificial sweetners (except a bit in my oatmeal). I also upped my protein a little, and will have a protein of some sort with every meal and snack. I still have a goodie now and then (as you see in my diary) and I don't feel deprived. Stick with it, it is worth it in the end.0
