Restaurant Food

How do you guys generally go about logging calories from restaurants? I'm a vegan, so it's harder to find the calories for generic portions of whatever I've had. Any tips?
I'm wondering about something specific, so if anyone's brilliant about guessing calorie content from vague descriptions, I can give you that info.

If I can't find any nutritional information online, I log a similar item from a chain restaurant to try to get an approximate calorie count. If I can't find a similar item, I would try to log just the generic items that make up the meal, but understand that it may be higher because of what they choose to cook the food in.0

Did you try searching online for the nutritional info of the restaurant's menu? I know not all are available, but it's a start!0

I did. It was the Warehouse Cafe in Birmingham, and the nutritional information doesn't seem to be available.0

Calorieking.com has a lot of information.0

Random and off topic but I just went to a completely vegan restaurant the other day and the food was to die for!0

LOL when I tried a vegan restaurant I was RAVING! It was delicious! It's called the Cafe Gratitude, and it is divine. I could not follow such a regimented eating plan always, but that experience sure opened my eyes that vegan does not equal boring or dull!0

I do what nightowl1 does as well - while eating, I estimate sizes/weight of the main components as well as approximate calories. I'm aware there's a large margin of error, especially about hidden oils and fats.
You can look at my food journal of Jan 7, when I did exactly that -- my work department went to a vegetarian restaurant. I had a lentil soup (noting that it was very lean), eggplant cutlets with a small pat of dauphinoise potatoes, an espresso with a single sugar, and a spoonful of a colleague's crème brulée. (Also, before that we got pizza brought in and a glass of champagne. It was a hard-to-log day, but I was making sure I got exercise in, ate small portions, and tried my best to estimate.)
(BTW, I'm a total meat eater, but eating out at vegetarian or even vegan restaurants is lovely. I also have a vegetarian friend who's an excellent cook... mhhh,)0
