Food Storage? (chopped/sliced vegetables)

What is the best way to store fresh chopped and/or sliced vegatables in the refrigerator? In the past I'd chop or slice it and put in in a sealed container, but after about a full day or so it's on it's way south. What am I doing wrong? My frig is at it's standard setting as far as coldness goes...I'd prefer not to lower it, so are there any other tips I might be able to try to keep them fresh and crisp for longer than a couple days? I've just sliced cucumbers and chopped up some celery. The celery is usually the first to go bad.

Moisture! With some things you'll have to put like a damp papertowel in the package or keep them in water. Celery just keep in a tub with some water. Lettuce just needs a damp paper towel. That's usually the problem if they aren't stored properly. So make sure you keep some stuff in the crisper too.
