It is dangerous to dip below a certain calorie intake, regardless of where you get your nutrients. I would be wary of these bars and shakes because they are a "quick fix" instead of a lifestyle change. They are low calorie, but they don't sustain your body the way a big pile of whole foods--fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats would.0 -
Well most programs that incororate bars and shakes still recommend a 1200 calorie diet. Most of them will say to replace the shake or bar with breakfast and lunch, but still eat snacks and dinner. I didnt know where to start when I wanted to begin this journey, so I bought a bunch of slim fast shakes. I also found this site at the same time. I would just track the shakes along with the other food I ate and try to get to 1200 cals a day.
It worked for a while to help me get used to the lower calorie foods. The one thing about the shakes is that they were sort of high in sugar for so early in the morning, but then again most things are that I eat in the morning that are processed. I quickly began replacing the shakes with real food and got on a routine with food that worked for me.
Not sure if that answers your question or not, but its what I know. Do not just eat the shakes and bars, add real food in there as well. The best bet would be to just eat real, nutritious food!!!!! Good luck!!0 -
Initially they're supposed to supplement nutrition as snacks and/or "meals on the go" when you have no time to cook or can't find something nutritionally balanced to eat. I wouldn't consistently consume them as meals all the time, as they can put you in a calorie deficit, but if you're constantly going over your calorie intake, it's just an option to have it as a meal. Our bodies still like the variety of actual food to be ingested.0
