Hi,

I'm new here and I'm not too sure on how this all works. I'm just trying to figure it out. I have PCOS and have been trying to get pregnant with no results. Everywhere I go, I am told that to have better successes I need to lose weight. Easier said then done! I was referred to a fertility clinic and was told that unless I do lose weight they won't try any procedures on me. I am trying my best to lose weight, but it's just not that easy!

Welcome. I also have PCOS and it's definitely not an easy task to lose. This site is helping me keep track of the food II put into my body and helping me become more aware of my water intake. Everyone is so supportive. Feel free to add me if you like. Good luck on your journey!

Hi Tritta - PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome. some of the side effects are growing hair in places you are not supposed to, weight gain (due to insulin resistance), infertility (my body does not ovulate. It can be so frustrating at times to know that your own body is your worst enemy when it comes to reaching your goals.

La diablesse- thanks for your support also. It's nice to hear from others on this journey. it can be quite overwhelming at times.

Hey there! I have PCOS too, and it IS really hard to lose weight. However, it can be done! Nothing else has ever worked for me, until I found MFP. I don't lose weight as quickly as other people, but it DOES come off and that's amazing. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like! :flowerforyou:

I was diagnosed with PCOS with insulin resistance in May 2010. I am not trying to get pregnant but before I was diagnosed I had no idea why I kept gaining weight. My doctor recommended Weight Watchers and I tried it but it just wasn't for me. When I was diagnosed my doctor put me on Metformin and I have noticed that it helps with reducing my cravings for carbs and refined starches, etc....I have cut out alcohol, sodas, anything processed and incorporated whole grain foods and a ton of fresh vegetables into my diet. I also try to get in a half hour to an hour of cardio exercise 4 to 5 times a week and I do circuit training twice a week. I lost the first 30lbs pretty quickly and then slacked off through the holidays and new year. I started back on my program and lost 5lbs within the first 10 days. In the past I always set impossible goals but now I set mini goals for myself according to things that are going on in my life. I think you just have to find what works for you, have a good support group that can keep you focused and just keep thinking about the end result. All the hard work will be worth it. MFP is a great site for support and to keep track of where you are at in your weight loss journey. I hope it works well for you.

Sometimes what I find the most frustrating and depressing is seeing other people who don't even like kids get pregnant so easily. I once helped a friend go through an abortion because she didn't think having a kid would be good for her relationship. Now, she's in the same relationship and has two kids. It's so hard for me to understand.

Then, I see the way people look at me or the comments that people make about my weight. They don't understand how hard I try to lose weight and how it is because of my condition that I am like this. Honestly, I probably did let myself go and now it's a bit scary to change. I am doing my best.

I was told by the specialist that I went to see at the fertility clinic that research has shown that metformin doesn't really help in dealing with PCOS. I don't know what reality is, but all I can do is trust my specialist.
