will one bad day mess it all up?

I've lost 11 pounds since 11th January by being very strict about what i've eaten and exercise. Today is the first day since I started that i've eaten any 'bad' food. Will it mess up my weightloss for this week? or worst of all will I gain? Today i've had: 1 banana, 1 small plate of chicken noodles, 1 caramel dreamcake krispy kreme and 3/4 slices of dominos cheese & tomato pizza. I'm so mad at myself for having no willpower today grrr! I'm just hoping I don't gain any weight this week. My weigh day is a sunday so i've got another week until I weigh myself again :-(

Nope! One day is just one day! We all have them, just pick back up where you started tomorrow. One day is never enough to mess it all up unless you let one day turn into 2 days into a week into a month...you get the idea.0

Oh honey, one bad day will NOT mess it all up!! Everyone has slips up--TRUST ME! Don't beat yourself up, because that's the worst thing you can do... that'll throw you off track more than the slip up in the diet plan. Allow yourself to get over it, and just tell yourself that you'll work harder tomorrow and watch your calories closer Keep up the great work!0

One day a week is actually good. It throws your metabolism off as it was unexpected and actually makes it work harder.
You will fine, keep up the good work.0 -
I went over 618 one day last week and still lost 1.5 lbs this week.0

I hear you, its so easy to beat yourself up over one day. Everyone has off days, when I have one I try to still get in a good workout, you know you've done your body good and it helps keep things in perspective. Good Luck with your journey!0

Just get back on the wagon. Consistency will beat strict perfection any day. Make better choices tonight, better choices tomorrow....0

I eat well, and SLIGHTLY under my calories, most of the week then have a day at the weekend for wine and crisps. I'm still losing and let's face it, unless you are Madonna, you are going to have 'bad days'!!! It happens!!!!
Just keep up with the exercise and watching your food intake!

Sometimes having a bad day tricks your metabolism and helps you! if I ever hit a plateau i eat junk on purpose and the weight falls right off. One bad day wont hurt0
-
No, one day won't mess everything up. My dietician told me that if you go over on calories one day (say, calorie goal is 1400 and you end up eating 2800) you have the rest of the week to make up for it, so just eat at least 200 fewer calories each day for the following week...or, just workout a little harder the next few days to make up for it.0

I let myself have a bad day a week (within reason) that way I dont feel guilty. Its usally on Sat, I have wine and/or chocolate and even chips. But I still lose as long as I stay on track the rest of the week. I also dont gorge at all meals on my "bad" day.0
-
No, 1 day won't throw you completely off track but make sure you honestly log everything you ate so you have an accurate assessment for future reference! Good luck!0
-
Nope! I've given myself 1-2 days off since I started and I've consistently lost at least 1 pound per week, my desired loss. I'm to the point where I no longer eat tons of junk food on my days off, but I still go over on my calories on those days.0

So glad to know 1 day is okay because next Sunday will be interesting .... I definitely plan on trying to have control but LETS GO STEELERS LETS GO ..... LETS GO STEELERS LETS GO .... how can you not eat/drink during the SuperBowl ..... :drinker:0

thanks guys, what you've all said puts things into perspective! One bad day out of 21 isn't too bad going I don't think. Thanks for the support!0

holy cow, i took a quick peek at your food diary and you've hardly reached 1000 calories per day! aren't you worried about your body latching onto every calorie you put in it?0 -
Lauz, I agree with Yep. You are not eating enough calories during those other days. I would guess your bad day is better than the rest just because you are not eating enough.
Go to tools and look up your BMR. Whatever the calories come up on there is what you burn laying around all day. So any movement on a daily basis, your body needs more calories to survive.0 -
nope, i give myself a "cheat day" every week for this purpose. it usually ends up being one unhealthy food (like chicken wings or fries, but not both!) and i still lose weight!0
-
6 good days vs. 1 bad day...let's do the math.
It all depends on how badly you exceed your BMR, but one bad day will only retard weight loss, not inhibit. I, personally, like to keep cheat meals to a minimum to expedite my own weight loss, but everyone needs them occasionally to remain sane during the exhausting diet regimen.0 -
It is ok to let yourself have a "bad" day...........it is all about balance............I have let myself have a "bad" day every so often over the past 7 months in order to stay sane.........but I do it only with the promise to myself that I will get back on track the next day..........so far it has worked...........I have lost 42 punds since June.0

I'm seriously regretting having pizza, i'm now really really thirsty lol. I'm going to go to the gym tomorrow to work all the calories off.
With regards to the people who have looked at my food diary, I had a look at my BMR is 1602. I am on my feet all day (i'm a student nurse) and I walk either to work or home from work which is 2.5 miles each way so i'm getting a lot of exercise calories back from that. I don't think i've physically have the time to eat all of the calories as I only get a 30 min break per shift and my breaks are at really weird times.
I'll admit I have been quite a way under my calorie goal but I haven't felt overly hungry and on some days I haven't done any exercise apart from being at work.
I've been quite pleased up until this point because this is the most weight i've ever lost, but I don't want to do it the wrong way and mess my body up!0 -
your weight gain will probably be 2-4 lbs... my advice? dont step on the scale for 2 weeks that way you dont beat yourself up about it0

FitMama,
are you saying that because of sodium or actual weight of the food? I'm seeing she's only over less than 500 calories- that certainly can't account for 4 pounds of weight gain- am I missing something here?
Edited: add note to original poster:
you will be okay- you may not see the number you want, but get back on the wagon, and I really do encourage you to eat above 1,200 calories a day. I don't mean to start the starvation mode argument, but MFP works well for a lot of us, and I think it gives generally sound advice about a calorie goal.
Maybe add something earlier in the day (some peanut butter and fruit or an egg or something).0 -

Easy! Don't bother watching it! I never do - and I'm still alive and kicking. :P0
