ok i know that Soda has nothing good about it and you dont need it etc etc!! two weeks ago i kicked my diet coke habbit. i was completely addicted to that stuff and had no idea! since then ive wanted a soda here and there so i let myself have a sprite...in 2 weeks ive had 3 sprites. well i got my blood tests back from my doctor and it showed that i was borderline for being pre-diabetic. he said i really need to watch it so that i dont become pre-diabetic and then of course diabetic.

well i wanna know...if i just really want a soda which should i go for...the real stuff or the diet version? i understand that a lot of you will say dont have any!! trust me im trying to completely break the habbit..but until then which would you recommend me having? thanks

  • If you're pre-diabetic, it seems like diet soda would be a way better choice! At least you're avoiding the sugar spike that way.

I understand how hard it is to quit the habit, believe me. I've switched to diet this year but I'm still hating it. It's not about the caffeine at all -- definitely the sweetness and fizz!

Well, I know that one of my coworkers (who is fully diabetic) can have the occasional Diet Coke, but she won't drink Sprite. So between the two, I'd say go back to the diet coke... that's my completely unprofessional opinion.

If you are borderline pre-diabetic, you need to choose the sugar free option. My dad is diabetic (on insulin injections) and the specialist told him if he was going to drink "soda" he should have coke/ Sprite zero. You also need to watch your carbs as they break down into sugar!

They are both nasty, but the better of the two evils would be regular.. Diet sodas are disgusting.

Watch a movie like " King corn" it will explain why soda's are so fattening....and how corn products are in everything you eat and drink....Maybe it will put you off the soda...and lots of other junk.

I would go for a diet soda with no caffeine, I am doing a diet and nutrition program with a local hospital and it is on the list of things I can drink. It actually counts as liquids towards water consumption since there is no caffeine. Caffeine free diet soda tastes just like regular diet soda. I am sure you know this but regular soda has tons of sugars.
  • Don't worry about corn. It's just the "bad guy" of the moment. It's food. Just like anything else, consuming it in moderation is fine. If you're pre-diabetic, the "real stuff" is actually dangerous. Sprite has just as much sugar and calories as real Coke!

Neither! Spring for some mineral water or carbonated water. Throw in some flavoring (like crystal light) if you must. Fizzy water, imo, is better than pop.

Those fizzy flavored waters - at least the ones I've checked - have contained aspartame same as diet sodas. :frown:
