Protein - How much is too much?

I've been having a bit of an issue with protein. I've read about the dangers of eating too much of it (such as overworking the kidneys and sending the body into ketosis). I've been eating nearly double of what MFP suggests. For instance, on Sunday, my alotted amount on my diary is 66 grams, however I consumed 133 grams. I do eat plenty of carbohydrates from good sources.
A lot of the foods that I enjoy and keep full on include lots of protein, such as peanut butter, almonds, cashews (anything with plenty of monounsaturated fats).

So....how much protein is too much? I hope I'm not going overboard.

I truly believe that as long as it is lean protein (or in your case nuts) then there is no worry. I hover around 125 consistently every day, but I do not eat red meat, only lean turkey, chicken, and fish, and no nuts, but occasionally 1 tbs of peanut butter.

I have read that your body can only process approx. 25g of protein in a sitting. So anything more than that your body is unable to use. May want to research it. If I can find the articel I will post it.....but protein is definitely a great thing and I am always over -- I try for a 1:1 protein to carb ratio. HTH

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I suppose I'll continue to keep my protein levels where they are (especially since they come from lean sources).

But I will increase my water intake. I drank about 96 ounces yesterday!
