hi all and hope your all losing the pounds well. Right, my query is this! On mfp the walking at 3.5mph only returns a calorie consumption of 122 calories for a 21 minute walk i just did. Runkeeper states that we walked at average speed of 3.38mph over 1.3 miles. Runkeeper has quoted me as losing 102 calories but using http://www.walkjogrun.net/ it asks me to put my weight in and returns a calorie loss of 240 for the same journey.

Any one know which is more accurate to go by? I can only assume that http://www.walkjogrun.net/ is better as it knows my weight and also the inclines of the hills etc etc

thanks for your time

steve

I really think the only true way to measure anything is with a heart rate monitor. Just my opinion

Runkeeper and MFP are pretty close - a "rule of thumb" is 100-120 calories per mile.
If you walked at 1.3 miles , I would say 122 is pretty close. It may even be a little more, but not 240.

**EDIT - PS: I agree, that a HRM is the best representation by FAR.

Add your own equipment/exercise in the add execise tab. Then you can be sure you get what you know is right for you.

this is exactly why I went to a heart monitor- my elliptical was giving me way too many calories burned. I need to check this runkeeper out.
