Under the Weather Weight Loss?

Hi all I just had a concern that I thought a few of my MFP's might be able to answer. I've been feeling a bit under the weather this afternoon, and it is certainly cold here in Indiana. I know a number of people who I have been around recently managed to get the flu or bronchitis, OH NO! I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting when I am feeling less than average, but this requires some TLC with lots of soup and Vitamin C (which may have lots of sodium and sugars), more sleep and probably very little exercise. So what do I do? Is it healthy to stick to a diet plan or should I take a few days off and focus on keeping my body heathy and functioning (not that I don't do that already, but I think you understand).

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks all,
-KZ

  • I was sick yesterday. Not like the flu or anything, but stomach hurt and body just felt like it needed rest. So all day yesterday was spent from the couch to the bed and vice versa. I had absolutely no appetite. And since I eat pretty good, and my house is full of good food, except some occasional crap for my daughter, I did not want anything I had in my cupboards. But I needed to eat something! And unfortunately, I CRAVED crap. I am not sure why. But I wanted McDonalds badly. But I didn't. I think while you're sick, you should focus on getting better, but at the same time, choose foods that are going to do that so when you do get back to normal, you won't feel guility and you're more likely to stay on the right path. But get something in your gut at the same time.
  • Take care of your health first and give your body what it needs. Lots of fluids!!! And rest! I just got over bronchitis and hardly ate but I'm sure making up for it now! I wouldn't even log while you're sick. Rest up and get better! :flowerforyou:

I'm feeling sick today too, and I exercised but now I wish I hadn't. It only made me feel worse. I think I should have taken the day off. I'd say do whatever feels best but your health is most important.

I'm still recovering from what I am pretty sure is influenza. I was pretty lethargic for a whole week with a low grade fever and now I have chest congestion and a cough, but slightly more energy. I still tracked what I ate but didn't worry if I was over or under. I actually didn't have much of an appetite so I was some days lower than normal. If I had the energy I walked instead of jogging but most days I skipped the exercise. At the end of the week I was down a pound and a half and I wasn't sure if I should count that as "real" weight loss as it could be due to dehydration or just general "sick" weight loss and might come right back. Just take care of yourself, and get right back on track as soon as you feel you can.

As a person who has had 4 colds and strep throat since the start of a new job... here is my suggestion, vitamin C and echinacea. And there are ways to do this without eating tons of calories.
    Although they do cost money.

You can simply buy a bottle of vitamin C vitamins and echinacea, but they run anywhere from $7-12 per bottle
My suggestion is to get airborne. Just put a tablet into a cup of hot water just like tea. You can find it at Meijer or Walmart. A single tub is about $7-8 and there are a variety of flavors, but if you want to save money buy the 3 pack about $15 but that only comes in orange flavor. 1 cup of airborne is only 5 calories!

I like the effervescents. Theraflu also works well for colds or flu.
