So I'm finding it hard to get anywhere close to the amount of iron needed daily. What are some foods rich in iron?

spinach is high as well as liver if you can stand it. I am always low on iron so I read that cooking on cast iron skillets will help. Some of the iron in the skillets will seep into your food. It may not be much but it is better than nothing. Granted this will not show up on myfitness. I learned of this from the Dr. Oz show. Hope this helps some.

Check out this website. http://www.myfit.ca/foods_highest_iron.asp. Scroll down for a bit and it lists over 100 items to choose from. Hope this helps :)

you can find iron in weird places. broccoli is a good one, taking iron of course, and i found crackers to be filled with them.

Haha, I know I'm going to get criticized on this, but red meat. I'm borderline anemic (fairly iron deficient) and my doctor always is telling me to eat more of this!

I am very iron deficient anemic and my hematolgist suggested I eat lots of spinach. I have also been told by other doctors to eat liver, spinach, brocoli, red meat. I found out on my own that cream of wheat has tons of iron.

    Hope this helps!

blackstrap molasses (great as a warm drink 1 tbsp with warm water, 50 calories, 20% of your iron)

leafy greens like kale, spinach, collard greens

    beans and lentils,

    oatmeal

some cereals and veggie products are fortified too, so they can be quite high

I'm vegan, but I think some meats are better than others for iron content, wouldn't be too hard to look up, and maybe someone here will know.

    good luck!
  • I start off my day with 1 cup of total whole grain cereal and 1/2 cup of fiber one honey cluster cereals and 1 cup of almond milk unsweetened. The total whole grain cereal gives you the iron you need and many other vitamins. Honey cluster provides flavor and fiber for me. Hope this helps! Worked wonders for me :)
