Hey friends! This is month 2 of our Fit By Summer challenge.
For those of you who are not already following the thread, we are just a group of people who have goals to meet by summer time. We are a positive environment for forming fitness friendships, so try to keep it light hearted!

SO for this months check-in (for new and old alike)

Tell me first Your name, your goals for summer, then for fun I want you to tell me the craziest or most bizarre thing that has ever happened to you. If you can't think of anything, just tell me something outlandish! I will start:

I am Emily, and I'd like to be down at least 15 lbs by the end of Summer.
When I was in downtown Charleston for New Years Eve back around 2003, I met Ted Turner!! He was coming out of a restaurant with several women, when my husband's friend saw him and said "Ted?! I think that's Ted Turner!!" and sure enough he turned and waved and said hi!

Hi! I'm not in the group officially, but I just developed a new summer goal for myself.

I'm Carrie, and my goal is to lose 20 lbs by my birthday, which is July 21st!

The craziest thing I can think of, related to Emily's crazy thing, was when I was an extra in the movie "Proof" and sat directly in front of Jake Gyllenhaal during one scene...which resulted in my giant face being featured in the film for a good 10-15 seconds! I'm famous. Oh yeah. :):):) Oh -- the other craziest thing that happened to me, or that I made happen, was that I lost 37 lbs so far! I can't believe I've made it this far. When I watch diet supplement commercials that feature testimonials of people saying "I lost 20 lbs using XXXsystem!" I think, wow, I lost almost twice that! I could be in a diet commercial!

Hello my name is Natalie and I would just love to lose 55 lbs. By July 4th. I honestly haven't been that small since high school. My ideal size would be a 7. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The most outrageous thing that has happened to me is that I was in a car that flipped over when I was about 3 months old. I was in the passenger seat (and not in a car seat) and I came out of it unscathed. Someone was looking out for me from up above!

Oh my goodness Carrie, that is SO awesome! Which movie? You are the most famous person I know!

Asmaa - you are my hero for raising five kids (maybe more!) twins is enough for me!

Natvee - I am so glad you survived that crash. I have been in a flipped car before, and you should be glad that you do not remember it!

    Good day folks, I'm Darren.

My goal starting after new years was to shed 20 pounds, but I'm almost there already. I'm going to set a new goal of an additional 10 pounds, then switch from mostly cardio to a muscle building program.

I want to be in top shape for a cruise coming up in April. My wife and 13mo daughter and mother in-law will be joining me.

    Hi,

I'm Jennifir. I recently moved to Massachusetts and love it here and the active lifestyle. It has me more motivated than I have been in a long time. I would love to lose 15 pounds by my birthday in May and 25 by the end of the summer. I'd love to be comfortable in a bathing suit considering I live within 20 minutes of beaches now! I also want to pursue my desire to be a Zumba instructor and plan to be ready to look into that this summer..

The most outlandish thing that has happened to me...not sure. I did meet and eat lunch at a mcdonalds with James Brown when I was seven. I'll never forget it!

lil tree, you can SO be an instructor! I wish we could be in the same class like we used to be. But at least we have the wonderful INTERNET to keep us going! Good luck! (also, I think it is pretty rad that you worked for so long in the biggest private residence in the US! - so that is pretty outlandish!)

Darren, I am so jealous! I have never been on a cruise, I'd love to go on one.

Zumba is a high impact, most amazing dance aerobics. Once you try it you are addicted. It has a latino, hip hop feel to it. Check it out at Zumba.com or check out youtube because I'm sure there are videos of it. Iluvsparkles and I started zumba together a couple years ago!

Agh - just lost my post. grumble.

To sum up - I'm still here from the January thread - aiming for 145 by summer.

Because of a "punk" phase in college, I was asked one day (on the way to class) to pose for photos with a group of visiting Japanese kids. So somewhere in Japan there are "visit to Canada" albums with me in my pink-hair, neon-green-dress phase.

Hi! :) My name is Erin and I am a stress snacker. ("Hiii, Erinnn..!")

I would love to lose 10 pounds by graduation in May.

I jumped off the Stratosphere in Vegas this past summer, and would love to sky dive this year if I meet my goal. ;)
  • I am new to this thread and would love to join!
    :)
so my name is kaitlin I'm from a teeny tiny town in Tennessee.
My goal when I started using mfp was 50 lbs. I've lost 14 of that so far and am hoping to lose the rest by June/July when my boyfriend and I take our summer vacation (I just wanna look smokin in a bikini ;))
...as far a crazy goes.. summer of 09 my cousin, me, and 2 of our friends went to panama (fl). We found the cheapest 'swim with the dolphins' excursion we could . Our captain was so cool, he pretty much took is away from all the other boats and people so we could have our own dolphins to swim with (out in the middle of the ocean, mind you) so we all jump in, we're swimmin around...no dolphins anywhere. Suddenly our captain tells us in a panicked voice to swim back to the boat. We just knew it was something terrible. While trying to 'calmly' swim back, my leg brushed against what I thought was hopefully a dolphin fin... But when we got back on the boat he told us we were just swimming with sharks. I didnt believe it but I looked put in the water and there were several sharks swimming away from us! I swam riight over one and my leg touched the thing!!!!
Sorry that's long but I get so creeped out when I re-live that story I feel the need to go into extreme detail lol

Hi My Name is Myra Brand. I would like to lose 30 lbs by July 4th. I just want to be a happy person with myself. :blushing:
  • Hey guys!

    I'm Holly - 24, from Colorado.

I have lost 20 lbs so far, and want to lose another 10-15 before summer! I also just started C25K, and signed up to run my first 5K in April.

I'm not really a crazy type of person (lol) but, the coolest thing that has ever happened to me...we were coming back to California from Catalina on my father in laws small boat when all of a sudden we drove into a pod of dolphins. There were dolphins surrounding us in every direction for as far as we could see. They were jumping, playing, talking...it was unbelievable.
  • I just started on this site 2 days ago. My name is Ayla, and I am 19. My goal is to lose 25-30 pounds by summer so I can get back into my favorite sport. I was a kickboxer for 10 years before I injured my knee. Now I have lost some strength, gained a LOT of weight, and lost flexibility.
I'd have to say the craziest thing that happened to me is a friend I used to hang out with became famous! Really. I didn't speak to her for a few years, and next thing I knew, I got a package in the mail from her, and it was their first CD. That was crazy :)

Hello friends and welcome to the newcomers!!! My name is Andrea, 24 year old in Massachusetts. My goal is to get down 20 pounds by summer...by my 25th birthday would be great, June 9th.

Craziest thing that has happened to me? It's happening right now...deciding to take a leap of faith and move across the country from California to Mass. with my bf in one of the harshest winters to hit the east coast in awhile (from what I hear). I have got to say the experience has been fun so far.

Zumba actually has a lot of "low-impact" options for most of the routines. All you need to do is tell the instructors that you have joint problems and they'll give you a variation of the routine. Everyone can do Zumba :)
