Belt or not?

Doing squats and deadlifts in my routine the last few weeks, I haven't been using a belt. Afraid to go too high on weight because if you use improper form, you can really screw yourself up. I've read a few articles on not using a belt, it will also work your core, voiding any need for crunches, and ab work. I know it works, because my abs were also sore after the workout. Just out of curiosity, Who uses a belt, and who doesn't? Which do you prefer?

I never use a belt. Using a belt takes the work off you core and ultimately weakens them. If you need a belt for general support, then fine, but if you are using a belt so you can lift some ego boosting weight, you are only fooling yourself.
I say stick to the loads you can comfortably lift without any belt and you will be better for it.0
