Staying in a hotel and keeping my diet going

My husband is going out of town next week to a seminar/training activity for work and wives are invited. My work schedule changed and I get to go. 4 star hotel, huge gym, pool and 3 buffet meals a day. {all expenses paid} Now I have made great leaps on the diet and want this to a be boot camp week not a derailment. DH is busy 8 hours a day so I have a personal trainer every morning scheduled and a massage or spa treatment every afternoon (DH's valentine gift to me).
MY DILEMMA
I am a little old school and feel that food at a buffet is meant to be enjoyed then and there, not carried off to provide food for your family for later kanoshong---I am sure we have all seen people at free breakfasts at hotels wiping it clean to pack lunch for later. This is a huge pet peeve of mine.
Figured out to ways to stick to my diet and respect the buffet.....which is less tacky....
Suggestion 1. For Christmas I recieved a beautiful set of measuring cups and spoons ...take them to the buffet and use them
Suggestion 2 go thru the line fix a modest plate and portion it at the table
Suggestion 3 Fix a plate go to my room and portion it into meals and snacks.
The problem is I dont' want to take more food than I can eat and then waist it {pun intended} but at the same time I want to enjoy my week away from winter , kids and stress by not stressing about over eating. Dh is always willing to help me clean my plate but I plan on making healthy food choices ---lots of fruits, greens and non processed foods.
Any Ideas? Is it really bad to carry that extra piece of fruit to your room for a later snack?

I say Suggestion 2. That way, if you took too much, you won't be tempted to eat it. I wouldn't measure it off the buffet bar though.0

I think all your ideas are great.
I don't think there is anything wrong with taking an apple or banana to go, for later on. Taking a basket load may be going over the top.
I recommend taking your spoons, put a plate together with what you think is thr correct portion sizes then measure it out back at your table. I find that a big part of being on this plan, is to stop caring what other people think of you.
You seem to be in the right mindset, Just remember to track everything, even if you go over and enjoy yourself
Hope this helps x0 -
This sounds like a pretty fancy hotel. I bet if you asked nicely they would tell you what they are planning to serve for each meal time that is healthy which would help you make your decision before you get there and get confronted with all the temptation.0

I would take this week at home to practice estimating portions (put what you think is a 1/2 cup, etc. on your plate and then measure it before you eat to see how well you estimate). I like option #2 as well, but I am a chicken about measuring things in public.
I don't think there is any problem with taking a piece or fruit or two to your room for a snack later, but taking a plate of food is a different matter.
You could also take some snacks from home to the hotel room -- fruit, nuts, etc.
Don't forget to add in those calories from those personal training workouts!0
